1971 Topps Brooks Robinson PSA 9

I just picked one of these up so I'm happy to see the price, but almost double since the last sell?!? It's a POP 7. One thing is for sure the high grade 1971 HOF's are skyrocketing

  • I think 71 9's are more like an endangered bird. Only a few around and not enough to replenish population. That pop report will be that way for a long time.
    Nice card

I have watched this card go from a Pop 2 to a Pop 7 in like a year and a half. Are other low pop 71's seeing a surge in their populations too?

For what I have noticed as of lately....scarce high grade cards of popular players/sets are going skyward fast.
I am looking for a nice 8 of brooksie and watched this auction. It waas also a very nice 9.

I agree pop report isn't going up much anytime soon. 2 to 7 is a huge jump % wise....but demand is still able to keep prices
on the rise. I bet most of the increases were 8's resubed.....not raw.

    Congrats to seller and buyer.

It certainly is pack fresh...I'm not a fan of the diamond cut but that doesn't seem to bug most people....

Not that I have seen. Kind of weird how a few have popped up of late....but still what a remarkable price

Agree that does bother me too!!
  • That left edge is tough for any 9 even a 71 but it still is a nice card.

Is it me or does brooks look like a Tuesday night softball player in this pic. Love handles, baggy pants, swing and a miss.

Great player but he must have noticed that he swung and missed in this shot. Topps sure did know how to pic their shots.

come on now. coulda been a foul tip.
  • True. And the guy did give his cleats to someone on the boards when they were young so I shouldn't hammer him.

You just don't get shots like this one in modern. Love that 70's realism.

I actually think he's in the on deck circle stretching or warming up or something..

But check out his fingers. I don't know if it's some weird glitch with the way the photo came out, but those are the longest fingers I've ever seen. Reminds me of E.T.

  • Only three guys bid over $2,900.00

Two of them drop out and your card value drops a lot.

Two more big spenders join in the future, and your card goes up.

    Tough to predict.

I do remember a 1972 Topps Nolan Ryan PSA 10 pop 1 selling for $10,000.
When it got to a pop 4 or pop 5, it had dropped to $4,000.

So I think the POP's do have somewhat of an effect.
