Best experience selling star lots

I am curious to know what others think about selling thousands of HOF and superstar baseball cards from the late 70's through the mid 80's. Would you group these as player lots (i.e Rose, Brett, Ryan, Seaver) or by year?
Any opinions or personal experiences would be appreciated. thanks, tom

In my experience, for raw cards player collectors pay more than set builders.
