2013 Topps Chipz
![dytch2220](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/userpics/511/n7DY23ZA3PL97.jpg)
Does anybody else collect these? I'm collecting just a few for my Kershaw collection. Have a few each of the silver and gold parallels. Still needing base, magnetic and glow in the dark.
Wondering if PSA will grade them. I know they grade topps coins, etc... so I'm assuming they'll grade these also. Sent them an e-mail a few days back, will update the thread with their response.

If these chipz can be graded, I think it will be extremely difficult to grade one in high condition. If you like a challenge, then Chipz is where it's at. Here are the reasons why in their order of concern from my POV:
1) High gloss finish. Every chip has a high gloss finish. Due to the loose nature of the Chipz in the package, they all come with marks and scratches, at least every one in the two packs I bought. Even the ones that came with a team sticker affixed which acts as a protective plastic film (think colorforms) were pre-scratched when I removed the sticker.
2) Magnet bulge. Chipz with a magnet have a bulge on the back side. Obviously, the finish on a protruding area is going to take the brunt of any encounter against another chip. Both magnetic chips from my packs have visible scratching around the magnet bulge.
3) Loose packaging. There are four chips loose in a package with nothing to prevent contact against one another. Pressure marks, scratching, etc...
4) Sticker centering & edge bulge. Since grading would come down to very little on a hard edged chip. I think it would just be finish of the sticker and the sticker's centering. Most of the stickers were not centered ideally and on some the edge where it met the ridge which was meant to be the boundary of the sticker area, the sticker has bulged.
5) Team sticker residue. When I removed the team sticker (plastic film), the tab that extended beyond the player image for ease of removal left a visible residue on the white part of the chip. I wasn't able to remove by rubbing with a glass cleaning cloth or with slight dampness.
Granted my sample size is small with two packs from one retailer, however, my outlook isn't good on these. I'll wait to see how the ones I bought from eBay arrive. Might buy a few more from another location to see if the trend holds and let you know.
I know I got a gold but that seems to be about it so far. A neat little product IMHO.
<< <i>Bought 2 packs today and I will be getting more. Will have to look a bit closer at mine. I know I got a gold but that seems to be about it so far. A neat little product IMHO. >>
Agreed, they're fun.
I found that if PSA doesn't grade them I'll just pick up some protective cases from tinytreasures.com, they sell casino chip display/protective products. The Topps Chipz are 40mm in case you decide to buy something from them. Oh, and their shipping is quite high.
Too bad they didnt make the actual chips another color other than white so that they could be used for poker, but i understand the reasoning in not doing it.
Bought 5 more packs today. Man these things are addicting!
Going for some more at lunch tomorrow.

Karb: I'll keep you posted, haven't really been anywhere else to look.

Right: 2013 TOPPS MLB CHIPZ CLAYTON KERSHAW GOLD PARALLEL
You can faintly see the silver/gold highlights on the front. I don't have them in hand yet so no pictures of the back, however, the silver or gold are highly noticeable on the back of the chip.
<< <i>If they answer yes ill be looking for Alex rodriguez ones >>
PSA responded today asking for front/back pictures so they could determine if they would grade. I grabbed some from an eBay auction and sent back, so just waiting on a decision...
2013 Topps MLB Chipz goes all in, bringing the poker chip concept and giving it a baseball spin. While they don't look or feel like traditional baseball cards, they use a very similar format.
Sold in packs of four, the 2013 Topps MLB Chipz set features 100 players. Besides base versions, there are four different parallels: Glow-in-the-Dark (1:2 packs), Gold (1:3 packs), Magnetic (1:4 packs) and Silver (1:4 packs).
2013 Topps MLB Chipz also includes some hits, although they're rare. Ten Relic Chipz are numbered to 50. The checklist includes eight current players as well as Brooks Robinson and Tony Gwynn. Collectors also have a chance at finding Autographs (#/25). The list of ten signers is highlighted by Buster Posey, R.A. Dickey, Jose Bautista and David Wright.
2013 Topps MLB Chipz packs also come with one game board and a team sticker.

<< <i>Only downside I see is storage may be an issue... >>
Problem solved.
<< <i>I nabbed a gold Kershaw and thought of sending it your way dytch, but I see you have one already. >>
Thanks for thinking of me!
It has been a long time since I have done anything with sports collectibles.
These looked kind of neat, bought five packs today, at Shopko.
I got three magnetic; Mark Trumbo, Chipper Jones, Adam Dunn.
2 glow in the dark: Aroldis Chapman, Ryan Braun.
3 gold: Jose Bautista, Brett Lawrie, Craig Kimbrel.
These are something just different enough I may keep working on the set.

Got my first 2 magnets today after around 20 packs purchased so far.
Anyone get an autograph from these packs lately?
robert67: which magnets did you pull?
Luckily for me there are several Target's within a 20 mile radius of our home in the Nashville area. No empty display boxes yet.
