Graded cards with yellowed flips?

What's the consensus of those who have experience with this issue? I've got a PSA 8 1971 Topps Pete Maravich card that exhibits signs of yellowing. Since it was one of the first vintage cards I bought I didn't really notice it, but I did notice the flip has a yellow tint to it. Now I know that when dealing with older cards, and paper in general, yellowing is common because of it's age, but could there be another reason behind it? I did purchase a few raw common cards from the set to compare and there is a noticeable difference. Does anybody have experience with graded cards that come from smoker's homes? I thought that might have something to do with it.

I was thinking smoke or maybe damage from sunlight. If it were smoke though, I think the case itself would stink like death.
  • I know it's not picking but it's the wavy flips that irk me you'd think there would be a simple fix for that. Can't help it I have a little OCD going
  • Don't be sorry, I'm the same way. I noticed the yellowish flip when I got it and when I got my 72 Topps Maravich I noticed it was brighter, not only in color, but the borders are whiter. I'm thinking about picking up another one in the same grade and selling the worse of the 2. Needless to say I'm a bit OCD too. lol

I was just throwing out the smoke theory, but I don't think that's the reason. It doesn't particularly smell and the case itself doesn't look yellow. The thing I like most is the card has perfectly straight edges. Meaning it doesn't have a rough cut anywhere on it. A lot of the graded ones I've seen do.
