My Latest MiLB MVP Pickups

While I know some of you on here can collect Ryan worn jerseys and go to Jeter meet-n-greets, those aren't in my budget. So I collect where I can- often at the local Rockies affiliate Low A minor league park. This year, I took an early interest in our Dominican born shortstop Rosell Herrera. And it was a good thing I did, as he has been absolutely killing it this year! For most of the season he's been hitting over .360 until an end of year slump took his average down to .343. Even so, he outhit the rest of the league by almost thirty points. His glove still needs a bit of work but he's playing leaps and bounds above last year. At season end, he was voted the South Atlantic League's MVP as well as Most Outstanding MLB Prospect. He was also voted the Topps SAL Player of the Month TWICE this year. Alright, on to the pickups!
Here are my two favorite items I got from Herrera this year. Of course I have some signed balls/programs/etc, but these are pretty cool, especially if he actually pans out!
Game used bat from July, slightly cracked, signed and dated in silver paint pen. Here is a pic of him signing it for me:
The Tourists (yes, that's the team name as it truly fits our town) had a "Throwback Night" where the players wore jerseys with the original team name from 1897, the Asheville Moonshiners. It's appropriate being we're in Appalachia. Anyway, they had a silent auction for the jerseys and I made sure to win Herrera's. After the game I went on the field and literally got the shirt off his back, took a couple of pics, and had him sign it for me. I dig the dirt on it from a hard slide in to third (he was out). He signed the upper left chest in black Sharpie after this pic was taken:
I'm well aware that in five years these may be worth less than a signed Ron Oester ticket stub (even though I'm an Oester fan too), but it's fun to collect however I can collect.

<< <i>Pretty cool stuff. I work in Asheville and didn't make time to go to a game this year. >>
You gotta hit me up man, I would've taken you to one!
<< <i>This is the way to go! I hope he makes it to The Show! >>
Me too. We had a pitcher for six games this year (again, Low A) who already went to High A and now AA. He's a possible Sept call up which is pretty impressive for someone who started at this level THIS YEAR.
