your tax dollars at work. Never understood why he didn't make the Hall of Fame. Few have changed the sport so profoundly, and when you see empty suits like Ford Frick and Bowie Kuhn in the HOF (not to mention the racist Kenesaw Mountain Landis, that kept the game white for decades) get in it just degrades the entire group by ommission.

How did he not make it? Easy. The writers are idiots. Plain and simple.
I actually think that Miller did the job he was asked to do . I think he did his job well . But the concepts he had supporting his ethic are anything but American in origin . The history of Unions , be they sports or work related Unions are easily traced to governments that despise individual thought or effort over collective thought and group think . Look at Greece or any other heavily collective type Nation and you ALWAYS find failure , in the end . These types of systems last as long as someone else's money or efforts hold up . As evident they CANNOT SUPPORT themselves , and MUST depend on others . These ideas may seem attractive now , but in the 50's there were many who understood the differences .
We are measured by the deeds we do in life , not the ideas we are beholden to . Ideas should never be measured by their intentions as opposed to the results of ideas . Look at the crushing flood of Union Pension and / or Legacy cost and how they're wiping out most city budgets . Not only wiping out but burying the coming generations of children with debt they NEVER caused .
I can hear all the supporters of failed ideology snarling and doing and saying what they will , to deflect from the facts of their reality . Horrible ideas may seem right, at the time , but in the end will finish at its natural conclusions . Again look at the results and not their intentions .
Again I believe Miller did well what was asked of him . He does belong in the HOF for his part in baseball history . I no not understand why he is not . I also , very much , do understand why there were people that felt the way they did , then . I'm sorry , but I've never been one to embrace group thought /herd mentality but rejoice in the Spirit of Man , which in the end will triumph . Gnash away , its all you got , if you must . -- Sonny

Wasn't he voted on by the veterans committee, a group made up of the very players that was greatly benefited by his actions?

You really think the reserve clause is a more "American" way to compensate labor than a free market system?
Miller's ideas on how to best represent his constituents were completely new. The way he was able to act in their best interest were fresh and original. The exact opposite of herd mentality

Yes - most recently in 2011 by the "expansion era" committee (8 of the 16 members are former players and they are all HOFers + 4 executives + 4 media/writers)
He missed by one vote. He received 11/16 and needed 12/16 and will almost certainly carry over on the 2014 ballot (three-year voting cycle).
The 12 candidates will be announced in November 2013.

Same idea. Shoulda just said "the voters are idiots". I suspect it's long-held grudges from ownership that have helped keep him out. There is NO ONE more deserving of entry in the HOF over the last 40 years - NO ONE.
