You got Jimmy, are you freaking kidding me? I asked his mom 2 weeks ago and she told me no way. Now I'm gonna have to go with plan B and hire a Wes Spece type. Great, just great.
  • I'm surprised you couldn't pry away Greg Rice from Mile High. I hear he's in high demand.

You think there are just a plethora of Spece's out there for the picking? Good luck with plan B, but I don't see it happening.

uh no, wiseguy. it appears he liked his childhood hangout so much, that when it came up for sale, he bought it.

how many people can say that?

I audited the card shop I frequented as a kid, does that count?

Btw, congratulations to Wes Spece and thanks to Snuffy for the background. Surprised Snuffy wasn't in the shop when that picture was taken, probably just off camera. image

Jesse from Breaking Bad did. Not his grow up house but his parents 2nd house. So it is possible, even without wearing a little beanie cap on the head for some ancient reason, to do. Long Live Jesse.

You guys can joke all you want, but it's not every day that a Wes Spece walks into your office, slams his fist down on the desk and says "You hire me today and I'm gonna make you a crapload of money." These opportunities come but once in a lifetime and it's good to hear that Rick is taking full advantage of it.

  • itzagoneritzagoner Posts: 8,753 ✭✭
if Wes slammed his fist on Rick's desk, i imagine his 5th metacarpal would shatter into more pieces than there are Nolan Ryan collectors.

Wouldn't that violate principle #1 of "Being Personable" in Probstein's 10 Principles of a GREAT CONVERSATION? Also, he didn't use your first name which is a clear violation of principle #3.

Wes needs to watch his step or Rick's going to come down on him like a steamroller working asphalt.
  • At the '98 National I saw Spece buy a collection from a guy, then sell it right back to him an hour later for triple.

I believe your reasoning as to why this partnership is going to work out well is specious at best.

Who knew there was enough spece for two hardnosed dealers in the Probstein empire.
  • itzagoneritzagoner Posts: 8,753 ✭✭
i heard they were also hiring an all-female support team for him and will call them the Spece Girls.

    clever.
  • Wes is more. Probstein will do more with Wes.
  • It appears that we're starting to head down a road where this thread gets derailed by a bunch of us trying to one-up each other with stupid puns, and I don't much care for the thought of that happening.
My suggestion is that we all make a gentleman's agreement to spece and desist with this nonsense right now.

  • Congrats!! I'm putting in for it once it ever becomes open again!! My only request as a customer/bidder on eBay is that you please space out every auction with at least a one minute per auction ending! Wes just by doing that I think sales would increase 5% + right off the bat!! Anyways good luck in your new position, it sounds like a sweet job and one that would be fun to go to on a daily basis! Hell, if I worked for Rick I would giving him a check every two weeks!! Lol

    that's a pretty Speceious demand.
  • How thoughtful Maurice. You should begin to apologize to Bobby first since you like to put him down so much.

  • << <i>Rick Probstein deserves an apology. >>

Any Specefic reason you didn't edit your post this time, Maurice?
  • Hopefully he will still have time to run that store. I'm sure he makes a ton of money there.
  • I must say. I know Wes very well and have setup at shows with him up and down the east coast and nationals for years. He has a very successful store that far surpasses what the majority of you could operate. He doesn't need a message board to grade his cards for him or tell him what something is worth on VCP or Terapeak nor does he need a place for him to show off his newly graded psa 9 Jose Canseco rookie that he just snagged at the flea market for 25 cents because thats the find of the year for them. and for the people who say that i don't know who you are than maybe you should think about what your typing when you are trying to beat on someones else reputation when you don't know who they are. He knows how to make it in this business which is much more than the majority of us can ever say or ever do and it is the very reason he has an awesome opportunity with Rick.

Congrats to Wes. Really wish him well in his role.
  • mikilia, my name is Justin Stafford. I sell mainly modern and set up at 40 plus shows a year from White Plains to Chicago to Charlotte. I am not Wes but that is very original the type of humor your attempting to use there. I've only seen it used a couple of times before and mainly by men trying to be funny in their middle years.
  • Justin, when you and Wes traveled to those shows, did you stay in separate motel rooms?
  • mikliamiklia Posts: 1,295 ✭✭✭
Thanks for the good words, Justin. Glad you appreciate. I heard there's a top-flight punctuation store in White Plains, definitely worth checking out!
  • I'm sure I can speak for everyone here when I say that we're anxiously awaiting to hear about everything Wes did on his first 2 days on the job. I mean how can you announce such huge news and just leave it at that?
