Cracking the psa slab and resubmit.

has anyone done this and how did it turned out for you? I recent bought a bird/johnson rookie card here at the forum. I agree with the seller, if resubmit it might get a higher grade. I am kind of tempted.

I used to buy PSA graded cards and crack them to keep raw. Later, I decided I wanted a PSA collection. I had a 1955 Topps Hank Aaron that was a 4 and got regraded a 4. Had a 1958 Koufax that was a 4 and came back a 5. Had a '61 Yaz that was a 5 and came back under minimum size.
edit: If the seller felt that it could grade higher, he/she probably would have done so rather than just telling you it could grade higher.

That is not necessarily true. Some sellers don't like the crackout game. That involves extra money and extra time. Take me for example. If I have a card that is about one grade too low, I just state that the card appears undergraded and move on. Now if it is blatant miss, that might warrant a crackout.
I've done MANY crackouts because I like raw cards, and a few resubs.
The first resub I did purely as a test. I wasn't doing this to increase the
value but more as a test to see how variable individual graders can be.
The answer is "they are".
Cracked out five lower-value PSA 9 cards from the 80s that I thought
looked perfect. Three came back PSA 9, one was 8.5, and one got the
upgrade to PSA 10.
The grading standards are pretty well-defined up through PSA 9,
but PSA 10 is very subjective and on "any given day" the grader
may or may not see fit to give you the 10.
On higher-value cards I personally wouldn't resub anything above a PSA 7,
but that jump from 7 to 8 can be huge $$$-wise. So it can defnitely
be worth the $6 investment to take a shot at it.
But overall it's a crapshoot as others have said so just be prepared for disappointment.

<< <i>Here is the card I was referring to. What do you guys think? Resubmit or just keep it as a psa 7?
I would leave it be, the centering and tilt is why its a 7 and not higher.
Of course I like to play the crack out game and am a glutton for punishment.
I say crack and submit to bvg!
<< <i>It's a 7, not going any higher than that. Save your money. >>
I agree
Tilted/OC PSA 10
That Clemens card is a perfect example of the essential unfairness of TPG at the high end.
