This card, recently doubled in POP to 2 and sold on ebay for over 700. I noticed today that BBCE sold the case of this product they had for quite some time.
<< <i>That's a crazy realized-price for ANY base card from 1989. Wow. >>
I think I agree but the blue borders make that a somewhat tough issue. I was never tempted to buy that case but I always looked at it wondering what all the Sakics in it would grade.
I've busted close to a case of 1989-90 Topps hockey and I had to buy my PSA 9 Sakic like anyone else who wants one. Blue borders and centering issues make busting that product a losing proposition. I would pay $700 for a PSA 10 Sakic topps rookie. Absolutely.
Same seller had it previously for $1500 BIN. I don't know how long he had it up for but it shows he only got one offer.
That's surprising that he only got 1 offer, the card is notoriously tough. Maybe the hockey HOF rookie registry has cooled down? I know the NFL registry is hot and the tough cards still bring stupid money- Example.
I still say he would've gotten a lot more if he just left it up- one of the registry guys would've eventually caved.

Tough card and set to be sure. I opened a bunch of it in the past, have about 25 to 30 of the Sakic RC's, and they pretty much would grade between 6 & 8 straight out of the package, not even worth subbing.
I know the first Topps PSA 10 was on ebay years ago and was a hard sell. Seller tried many times between $3500 - $4500 with no takers. It was not a good looking 10. Slightly off centered, with 2 print spots. I was involved in the first bgs 9.5 Topps Sakic 10 years ago. Sold close to $1700 to a guy in Japan.

You should have seen what 1989 Upper Deck Griffey PSA 10s were selling for 10 years ago.

<< <i>It undersold. It would've moved as a BIN for $1500-$2000. Card is impossible. >>
