Displaying your cards?

I am curious the members on here displays their cards or not. I am thinking of getting a glass display case and putting some cards on there then mount it on the wall.

So you guys display it or just put it away in the closet/attic.

I tale detailed scans of my slabbed cards and keep those scans on my computer and on my cell phone. The actual cards go in the safty deposit box for safe keeping.
Whenever I want to admire or show off a card, I just whip out my phone....

Hope you guys are using glass that blocks UV light or your treasures will slowly fade if exposed to sunlight, incandescent or even to a lesser degree fluorescent lighting.

Most of the time I keep it covered. It has glass on the back side so the back of the cards can be seen and read.

I've used the same display case since 1987. Card stands I started using the last couple of years. No UV blocking on the display case. Incandescent bulbs only, I never use fluorescent. Hate that type of lighting. Little to no sunlight in the room, nothing directly on the case or stands. Never had a fade problem with cards or Comics. I rotate comics every 3 - 4 weeks, I rotate the cards even less. Just normal stuff is all I do. I want people to see and comment on my cards/comics, so I like having a display myself. But if you're going to display, and 90% of your time is going to be spent worrying about light damage etc, leave them in a box.

Does the psags slab have UV protection to it?

PSA doesn't. I think BGS has some UV filtering, much like Pro Mold and Ultra Pro One Touches have some UV blocking. PSA and SGC cases do not however, I may be wrong, but I don't think I am.
I'm sure PSA is hard at work developing a UV coating to protect cards and up their reputation. Or not, might cut into future grading profits. image

I better keep the cards away from the windows then.

    36 Card Display Case

I think these are a great value and have six of them in black on the walls in my front room.

I use the same 36 card case. It is really nice. I was impressed with the double boxed packing. Nice finish, UV glass, and solid construction.

I store my cards nice and neatly tucked in a box, on a shelf in my closet away from sun, people, everything...the way I like it!
  • I collect primarily White Sox cards...I've always dreamed of opening a bar near Sox Park and displaying the cards on the walls.

Sox players (past and present) would eat/drink for free.

  • Hello,

I am building a display case for a set of early 60s hockey cards and am concerned about fading due to UV light.

I plan to get resistant glass, but understand that not all "UV resistant" types are the same. Some filter more; some less.

Was wondering if anyone had a suggestion about a brand or certain threshold (99%+, etc.) that I should shoot for to keep everything nice?

    Thanks,
    Casey
