Question regarding EBAY seller protection...

If you insure an item which requires a signature do you still need signature confirmation. I went to the post office this morning and was told I am wasting my money on signature confirmation since a signature is required since I insured the item for $400.

I believe Ebay requires signature confirmation even though the PO obtains it with insurance. I always add it on items over $250.

If anything you're wasting your money on postal insurance. You're far more likely to have a Paypal/customer issue than a rare screw up in the postal system. You need protection against scammers and signature confirmation protects you against Paypal and the people who will take advantage of you if you don't follow Paypal's rules. Package securely, ship where Paypal instructs, use signature confirmation, and your chance of suffering a loss will be close to zero.

I was once told that the records are kept differently for insurance signatures compared to SigCon signatures. They told me that the insurance signatures are to prove the handed it to someone, while the sigcon is used to actually show WHO signed for it.

  • You still need Signature Confirmation because it is viewable online. The insurance signature isn't.

Ship as per ebay's instructions or you will lose any cases that may come up in the future.

Thanks for your input. I will keep using signature confirmation with insurance.

    I always get both.

My question has always been this...

What if you ship an expensive item and they claim that the package was empty? Is a seller still covered?

The seller wouldnt be covered through ebay, but he could file a usps claim if he shipped with insurance.
