E-Bay intro's New Software to Recognize Disguised E-Mail Address's

Evening,

Not getting into debate if you should or shouldn't do it, but have been disguising my E-Mail for years with no problem when answering a question thru E-Bay. Tonight tried 5 different ways and got this!

Most were like "username+the word at then my carrier dot net" and something in their software is now somehow triggered.

Got this:

Your message wasn’t sent because it included an email address.

For your safety, eBay does not allow the exchange of email addresses in member to member communications . This protects both buyers and sellers by keeping a track record of communications. It also helps ensure that transactions happen on eBay so buyers and sellers are covered by eBay protection programs.

Please remove the email address and resend your message.

If you want to receive photos from another eBay member, you do not need to share your email address. Buyers and sellers can now attach images to messages sent from eBay by using the “Attach Photos” button

  • That's been going on for several months now.
I sent a buyer 5 single word messages which was my email to bypass that since he was going to do a PayPal gift.

Put your email address in your "ME" page. 707 does it.

Great idea! Neil, you can add your e-mail address to that one of you with all the bacon that Scott posted. image

Just don't send it to any minors. Or vegetarians. Or Muslims. Or.... you know what, don't use that one.

  • I haven't done this in the last few days but this format has worked for me recently

I think what Zurbs was saying was to put extra spaces in between the words instead of just one?

This protects both buyers and sellers by keeping a track record of communications. It also helps ensure that transactions happen on eBay so buyers and sellers are covered by eBay protection programs and you don't make any money without us getting our cut.

    Fixed it, lol..

I haven't tried it with the extra spaces (more than one), but the one space for sure doesn't work anymore; at least not for me.
One thing that makes me nervous is them (ebay) having the messages available. I bought a video game that said it was "like new" and
received it all scratched up. I sent the seller a message saying I was displeased, and he sends me 5 messages cursing me out.
Each succeeding email he sent was to reiterate to go f - myself, etc. I called ebay to complain, and surely enough, they had the 5 messages
he sent in front of them to prove my complaint and put him on a 30 day suspension.

So if this is available to them, then they can surely see us trying to go around the email disguise.
I do however like the attached picture idea.
  • For say, basketballcollector@yahoo.com, try saying it this way: The word before the at sign is basketballcollector. Then the at sign, then use the free mail account, yahoo. Then the dot, then the com.

    They will never catch that.

  • When you hit attach photo this comes up so there is a risk there if you are sending a photo with your contact info on it. I used to have my email address as part of the photo at the top of my ebay store. At some point they deleted the photo.

Remember, when you upload your photos:

Your photos will be stored and shared on eBay servers, and can be viewed by eBay Customer Support representatives.
All uploaded photos must comply with eBay's image and text policies.
