Back from vacation-My National pickups and experience

My wife and I attended the National on Sunday, the first day of our vacation. My main objective was to stop by the BBCE booth to pick up some unopened items. My wife was amazed that the 1975 mini box that she had purchased for me last fall had increased so much in value. Her jaw dropped to the floor when she saw the mini case with the sold sign on the mini case. After talking with Steve and the guys and making my purchase (early 80's and 1993 Jeter wax), I was about to leave when my wife says she was surprised that I did not buy that Pete Rose pac. I asked "What pac?" She showed me the 1978 Topps cello Rose on back and front PSA 9 pac. I had completely missed it. Well it is mine now.

Next it was over to get some autos from The Big Red Machine. In 1974 we went to Spring Training for the Reds and my mother took pictures of us and various Reds players. For years I tried to get her to dig them out so that I could get them autographed. She finally found them and here are the autographed results:
Bench

Morgan

Perez

Rose

Here is one that I hope to get signed. If anyone has any info on when and where he is signing, PLMK.

And, unfortunately, I will not be able to get this one signed:

By the way I am the sharp looking one with the wide white belt. So, even though about 10% of the tables were empty when we got there first thing on Sunday, I accomplished my goals and, thanks to my wife, picked up a awesome cello.

  • Great stuff thanks for sharing.

Did Bench, Rose or Morgan say anything about those photos when you showed them? Like did they stop and look at it for a moment or did they just sign away like it was any regular everyday item that they sign?

Awesome pick ups. I looked at that 78 Rose cello and thought awful hard about buying but ended passing on. Glad to see a Reds fan picked it up. Love the spring training pictures. There was a Cincinnati dealer that had a ton of 68-71 originally Kodak pictures from the Reds spring training that were autographed. Boy, I thought long and hard about buying and may regret it at some point.

    great pics!!

is rose signing with a pixy stix or is that a quill??

I'm guessing you're about the same age as me or a couple years older (I'm 44); I had a wide white belt too like most boys did in the mid-70's; I think all our moms mustve shopped at the same store back thenimage

Those pictures are cool. I was lucky to get a picture with none other than Dickie Noles as a kid. Concepcion is doing a private signing in a couple weeks, if you are subscribed to www.sportscollectors.net the guy doing the signing is Tom Orr.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

They all actually did comment on the photos. They all asked what year it was from and when I told them 1974, they all knew they were from Tampa. Rose and Perez both thought the photos were so neat that they added inscriptions at no charge. I had thought long and hard about paying additional for inscriptions, but I thought the extra money was better spent on wax boxes so these were a much appreciated bonus.

Rose is actually signing with a long novelty pencil that I picked up at DisneyWorld earlier in the week. I still have the auto, but being in pencil it does not look very good. Yea, the wide belt was all the rage. When my sister-in-law saw the photos, she said the last time she saw one of them was on Brady Bunch reruns.
  • Thats actually pretty neat they they showed genuine interest. If you can, maybe scan or take a picture of the original auto in the photo and add it on here. I would love to see it. It would kind of bring this to a complete circle image

Glad you had a great time at the National. Sweet Rose pack BTW - Front AND Back!
  • Awesome Reds photos and autos. I love the story, and it's great to hear they were all really nice about them.
