Why doesn't VCP acknowledge Star Basketball from the 80's?

Anyone know? I understand the guy that owns the site pops in here from time to time. Is it because PSA doesn't grade them?

    that is exactly it- PSA won't grade them anymore, and as such they are one of those issues that are so dubious ('28 Fro Joy is another) that everyone seems to stay away from since the major TPG's can't accurately authenticate and therefore refuse to even try.

    Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

    Why Becket and PSA don't grade the 84-85 Star basketball cards?

    From what I understand (I don't collect them) they were reprinted for years afterwards by the company, and TPG's don't feel comfortable in their ability to detect reprints from originals. There is someone in LA that can, but only Global worked out a deal with him and once they collapsed no one else grabbed him, so they are ungradeable.

    Beckett grades them and do a good job. The only sets that were reproduced from actual star plates were some subsets. There are some good threads on the board that explains it in more detail

    That is a shame. People who has the original are the one who got screwed. Any reason why this auction got some many bid even though it deal fake?

    MattyC started a really good thread a while back but the search function is garbage and can't find it.

    I have read all those. To be clear, the specific question is why VCP won't even acknowledge their sales? It seems so odd. I mean they acknowledge the most obscure stuff from Burger King cards to Quaker Oats cards, but not these iconic cards? And all because PSA won't grade them?

    For the same reason PSA won't grade them.
    Laziness. So it's best for VCP and PSA to act as if they don't exist.

    At one point they were on VCP. I talked to Bobby at the time but cannot remember why they were removed other than maybe it was lack of sales.

    They seem to be selling fine now in BGS holders, and there should be sales of the key XRC's for certain.
