Got my grades from my initial submission test on my 1981 Topps from vending boxes and grading was tough.

No love for Jim Ed Rice. Nice work on the Rickeys. Rickey loves Rickey.

  • Those Rices were pretty well centered, nice surface and corners. Backs were not too great
on centering but still thought I'd pull at least one 9 out of four.

Henderson card is generally tilted so extremely tough to get a 10.

Thought one of the Cooper and the Perry were possible 10s.

    Same with the Rose RB.

You can pull 10s from vending but they have to be crispy critters.

Guidry is a beast. What was your turnaround time?

    Thanks,

  • Tell me about it.

Those Guidrys looked really good to me. Not sure what they're finding
wrong with that card as there are over 90 subs now and no PSA 10.

Turnaround time was awesome -- mailed them Wed July 31st and they popped last night.

About to put together a large 1981 Sub myself...really tough set. 2 Mint 9 Roses isn't bad at all. I saw a 10 sell for over $1000 recently!

  • I wish.

The one I subbed was the lesser Pete Rose record breaker.

The valuable one didn't get subbed -- I have thirty of those Pete Rose
cards now and only about two could possibly be a nine and the rest are
8 or less due to poor centering.

  • lots of trickiness in the 81's. Been working on them for quite some time. Self-submitted subs are definitely pride worthy. Good luck.

From what I've seen, the Guidry is normally a registration issue. Typically looks faded. I had a cut card case that contained Guidry. Even though the centering was good, corners mint, the registration is all I can see that put them in 9 holders. IIRC, I had around ten 9s from the case.

    Thanks,

  • I read your cut card case thread.

1981 may be the toughest older Topps set that people are actively
trying to complete and I'm not going to be one of them.

So far I'm into this thing for about $700 and getting get my money
    back ain't gonna be easy.
