Bought a 1983 Topps Vending Box from them at the National and got a Gwynn & Sandberg. Sadly, neither were grade-worthy.
<< <i>Haven't ordered from them in awhile but I ordered 10 87 Donruss racks and 3 86 Fleer cellos today.
2 of my favorites from the 80's. Can't wait! >>
Late 80s cellos are gateway packs.
To stash away:
1980 Topps Baseball Unopened Cello Pack
1977 Topps Baseball Unopened Cello Pack
1983 OPC Baseball Unopened Wax Box (Bought this last year from BBCE at 70.00 per box. Couldn't find anymore until now. Also have a nice OPC wax box run from 1978)
1984 Topps Baseball Unopened Cello Box (I have a nice run of Cello boxes from 1979-1989 and needed the 1984 to fill a void)
1990 Bowman Tiffany Baseball Complete Factory Set
1989 Bowman Baseball Tiffany Unopened Factory Set
To rip:
2 x 1990 Topps Baseball Wax Box
1 x 1993 Topps Baseball Series 1 Box
1 x 1991 Topps Baseball Wax Box

Don't know if I will make it though because I never met a pack I didn't want to rip!
<< <i>Nice purchases! I'm going to try and salt these away for awhile even though they are cheap.

Don't worry Robert, you aren't in the minority. Even Grote can't resist the call. Luckily I'm immune to these urges.

3 1985 Topps cellos.
I actually have 9-10 unopened packages from BBCE from the last 4 years. Some are group rips and others from the site. Some rainy day...
To be honest, no direction, but...

I picked up a collection off Craigslist several years ago from an older gentleman that had quite a few boxes of early to mid 80's unopened baseball (Topps, Fleer, Donruss) but did not have any for the year 85. Still need to pick up a 1980 Topps baseball wax box as well as late 70's baseball and football. Will do so over time.

<< <i>Today is OPC Hockey Day on their site. Some nice stuff there but I can't afford those prices. I bought the 1982 OPC Cello Pack PSA 9 with Gretzky Record Breaker on top from them last night for $50. First graded pack of any type I've purchased. It's the only one that's been graded and I'm a Gretzky collector so happy to add it to my collection. >>
I've been staring at that hockey wax for a few days. I had the 88/89 box in my cart and backed out as I don't keep anything closed and there is no way there is $400 in cards in that box. Would love to rip the 86 box but $1700 is insane. The 82 box seems like a decent deal but I already have a nice set and the big cards in PSA 9.

Got home from work and a box from Steve and Company was waiting!
I wanted to open it at once but was told by the boss aka the wife it would have to wait!
Married 17 years so many of you will understand!
Will update as soon as we get back!

Yes I did see that. Although I'll be honest, I have no idea what sort of production runs there were with the Mini's. I know I've personally seen some of the regular ones a few times, but I don't recall running into the Mini's before.

A little studying online and I still couldn't find any production #'s of them. I did see that there were a lot of centering issues (figured) and also some rough cutting issues (that one was news to me- some of the pics I saw looked like old OPC cuts).
Sooooo looking forward to this coming weekend already!

I agree that ripping either of those boxes is likely going to be a money losing effort. The 88 Topps is better value than the OPC I think. The Hull RC is double printed. I remember finding a card shop in Washington State back in 1990 that had what seemed like an unending supply of 88 Topps Hockey at $1 per pack. I bought a ton of them and the Hull RCs sold within minutes of any show I sold them at opening for $40 per. The shows were in BC Canada, not Washington State. I don't thank anyone looked at centering back then just whether or not the corners were sharp and they all were.
Again, this is my first purchase from BBCE, and this has all bee in the last 30 minutes or so...am I just being anxious?

1. Place order, make payment
2. Wait for shipment confirmation, go to your bank's website, see what the final charge was
3. Spend 5 days trying to calculate which of your items was killed and not filled that would result in the final total charged
There's always that little bit of "ugh" when you open a BBCE box and see that he ran out of certain items. A small price to pay, I suppose.
<< <i>As great as Steve is, his website is sorely lacking. Your payment went through just fine, it's just that you're only on step 1 of a 3 step process:

2. Wait for shipment confirmation, go to your bank's website, see what the final charge was
3. Spend 5 days trying to calculate which of your items was killed and not filled that would result in the final total charged

In my experience, if they are out of stock on a particular item or items, Steve or Rick will email you the next day to let you know and give you the revised total of your purchase price, and if you still want to place the order.
Edit to add: Brad, "awaiting payment" just means they haven't processed the order yet. Since it's after hours, you probably won't get the order confirmation till tomorrow morning/afternoon.

That's number one on my wishlist, link the website to inventory so it shows how many of each item are available, especially when there are no more in stock. It sucks to place an order after hours and have to wait until morning to find out if they still had the item in stock or not. Ah well, I think as long as you know that is a possibility, it sucks a little less.
Other items on my wishlist:
- A reasonable representation of the item for sale in the photo and/or description. I have ordered boxes shown with huge x-out marks, only to have them arrive without any marks at all. No complaints there, but it also works the other way around. I ordered one box that looked pristine, but when it arrived there was a huge piece of the top layer of cardboard missing. Given many people may purchase to display the boxes (sealed or empty), I would imagine they would like to know if the box is at least an x-out or missing cardboard. I understand BBCE isn't in the business of grading the exterior boxes and you can always ask them (and I do) if it matters that much to you... but it still makes my wishlist!
- Include tracking numbers in the order shipment confirmation e-mail and/or on the Invoice Details under the My Account tab.
- Associate site preferences with your login so when you sign in things like Items Per Page and Sort By default to your selections.
- Have the site preferences at both the top and bottom of the page so you don't have to scroll back up to the top to move to the next page.
The last 3 are obviously minor things. The first one is far more of a concern for me. But getting real-time inventory on the site is obviously on the top of just about everyone's list I would imagine.
By the way, all the boxes I referenced previously in this thread showed up and were in AMAZING condition, despite a number of the photos showing x-outs. I'll try to take some pictures this weekend for those who are interested. BBCExchange.com may leave something(s) to be desired, but BBCE itself sure doesn't.

Fun rip!
On the chopping block was:
2 x 1990 Topps Wax Boxes
1 x 1993 Topps Series 1 Box
1 x 1991 Topps Box (was not wax)
Got the following:
1 x 1990 Frank Thomas Mint+ - going to PSA.
2 x 1990 Rickey Henderson Mint+ - both going to PSA - this is actually a pretty tough card to land in a 10. The secret is kind of out I think though. Pops are rising on this card and the price should dilute soon. 4SC should bring down their price of 70.00 per 10 soon. I have one consigned to Rick right now.
2 x 1993 Derek Jeter RC - 1 is terribly MC, the other is really beautiful and is going to PSA
1 x 1991 Chipper Jones RC - another great card - going to PSA
If I can remember, I'll try and get some scans up.
I'm thinking about opening the 1989 Bowman Tiffany box to try and get that Griffey...oh the stress having juicy unopened product at home can bring!

For saving: 84F Wax Box and 83O Wax Box
Fate undetermined: 86F Wax Box and 84T Rack Box
It all goes to the back of the line anyhow. I went on a junk buying spree earlier this year and have far too many Wax/Rack/Jumbo boxes to open...and I sort as I go so it takes me a while.
I also ripped the box of 87' American/UK FB. That was as much fun as I thought it would be. I pulled 5 Payton's and 4 Montana's....although a few might grab a 9 I doubt any will grab a 10. The one or two that did have perfect centering also had rough edges. Still, I had so much fun with that one that I bought 3 more boxes tonight. I'm afraid I have an illness.....a horrible addiction.....if I keep buying unopened I'm going to have to stop going to work so that I have time to open what I buy. And then I'll have no money to buy the unopened. Once that happens I guess you'll see my stuff on the B/S forum.

I plan on opening at least one of the 1988 Topps Football boxes. I've been going through boxes of that like crazy trying to build a NRMT-MT+ raw set for some reason.
