Had to open to check...

How credible is it when a seller on eBay opens a case of rack packs or something to check to see what is inside it? Is it that they really dont know the contents or they want to rummage through first?

I rarely bid on those. I know that some sellers are not doing anything underhanded, but I am sure that others are.
  • Most product is marked on the outer carton so what's inside is pretty obvious. For example 16/24ct 372-85 is a 1985 16 box Topps cello case. Or 6/24 ct. 971-86 is a 6 box 1986 rack case. Anything that's not sealed should be assumed to have been open and searched. I suppose on a wax case if only one flap was opened and the other left sealed to get a peak at the box graphics that might be acceptable. JMO

  • Rack tampering should be obvious -- not the selection of racks in the box or case but the racks themselves. I've never
    encountered any before.

If an eBay seller I'm not familiar with is selling racks/cellos with stars showing, for the same year/brand that i'm looking to buy, and the box isn't factory sealed or BBCE, etc...i pretty much steer clear. Though all may indeed be legit, and truth be told, lack of selling star power racks, clearly doesn't exclude the chance of tom-foolery, but it's a touch more reassuring if you're gonna roll the dice.
