My Chicago National purchases (w/scans)

Had a great time at last week's National (as always) but this one was even more special because my son Zack joined me. We're Dodger fans (I was born in Brooklyn and grew-up in LA) so one of our highlights was going to Wrigley Thursday night and seeing LA come back to beat the Cubbies. To top it off, Puig homered in the the 9th for the final 6-4 margin!

Great seeing the fellas on the floor and at the PSA Luncheon and the Net54 Dinner. Zack really enjoyed meeting and talking with Matt, Kirk, Eric, Dustin, Dave & his son Ben, Mike and Dan - thanks for being so welcoming guys!

Here are my buys - as always I wasn't disappointed with my purchases at the National!

These first four are for my HOFer playing-days sets:

These next two beauties I bought from Dave & Matt (they shared a table) and they're for my Post-48 HOFer RC sets:

These last two I bought from Piedmont Cards, thanks Tom! The Roush CJ is his rookie (look at that baby-face!) and it's my first Cracker Jack. I have no idea why it graded a 5, I couldn't find any wrinkles or surface flaws (maybe you can Kirk!) and three of the four corners are sharp. It looks like a 7 or 8 to me. The '33 Goudey Gehrig is my big buy from the Show, thrilled to own it!

  • Thanks for sharing the picture along with the scans. Sounds like you had a great time with you son. Thats what its all about.

Great purchases too. High grades, and yes - that Gehrig is awesome. I keep telling myself that I need to get that card in my collection. It will happen one day.

Andy, The picture that starts this thread is what its all about. That's a great photo of you and Zack.

Next year I am not going to look at your cards, and just be surprised when I open your thread at what you purchased. I have to say I think the Cronin is my favorite! The color and image just pop on that card.

It was great seeing you as always. I will get in touch with you next time we come to the cabin in the mountains. Maybe we can grab a beer or go to that shop in Gatlinburg!

Nice cards Andy...very entertaining watching you check the grades especially after Zach opened the box. Great to be able to spend time with SEC fans and talk football. Hope to see you both next year. Check the top of the CJ to see if maybe there is a small ripple.

Andy, great looking picture of you and your son. Sorry I just missed you for drinks after the Net54 dinner. Would have liked to say hi.

Congrats on all the pickups!!! That Campy looks real sharp and I too have that '33 Gehrig on my hit list. I'll try to find you in Cleveland next year.

Andy, as always great pickup, but most importantly you got to share the time with your son. I'm looking forward to see you again in Cleveland next year.

Thanks for all of the kind words guys, and it was great seeing and catching up with so many of you in Chicago. Next year in Cleveland!

Andy, nice to see you again this year and also meet your son, Zachary. You've got some sharp goudeys there, but my favorite is that 49 campy. Sweet card there.

Next year we will talk more paleo stuff over beers. No telling where that conversation will go...

Love the Goudy's. That Gehrig is a super nice 4. I am working on getting the Diamond Stars HOfers right now in a 5. Those cards scream 30's Art Deco.
