Suggestions on how best to liquidate a portion of my collection

Hello all,

I think I am going to downsize my collection a bit or at least try and gain more focus in it. I am primarily interested in baseball at this point in my life but collected football and basketball in the past. I am a set collector for the most but but also have singles as well. I am hoping to purge myself of the football and basketball and some baseball singles at least. So let’s say I have a couple hundred raw random sets (of course mostly from the 80s and 90s) how would you sell them and several thousand singles? There are some nicer sets SP, Select Certified etc as well as a lot of insert sets from that timeframe. I know typically it is worth the money to piece out a collection rather than sell things as a lot but I am concerned that if I do this I will be left with a bunch of the sets that no one is really interested in. Or is it worth the hastle to piece it out and then throw one big lot of whatever is left over together to sell? Also any suggestions on where to sell it? Throw it on the Bay or has anyone had luck on craigslist? Just hoping to get some perspective and advise from anyone who has ventured down this road in the past.

Thanks,
Josh

I did something similar about 1 year ago. Although I did not have 100's of sets, I did have a run from 1973 - 1990 with multiples of many. I listed some of what I felt were more valuable (1973 - 1980 Topps) on Ebay before giving the Buy, Sell, Trade Board a chance. I ended up selling some big lots on the Board and cleared more money than I probably would have on Ebay. The last 40,000 cards (mainly from 1987 - 1993 junk sets) were donated to charity for a write off.

I have had the best luck selling on ebay. Provide good pictures and/or scans. Use auctions instead of BIN's. Start auctions out at .99. Anything of value will sell.

Whatever is left over can be combined into lots.

    Good luck.
