This price seems like it is out of line with reality. I could easily be wrong but it seems extreme. I think they are just fishing with the price that high.
I looked through their items for sale, everything seems sky high. As I perused what they have for sale, I was thinking to myself: "Gee, $399.00 seems high for a PSA 10 1987 Leaf #35". Shortly after I spit a mouthful of milk across the room when I saw the BGS 10 version of it for $3500.00, that's insane!!
This 16-card standard-size set was issued by Auburn University and includes members from different sports programs. Reportedly only 5,000 sets were made by McDag Productions, and the cards were distributed by the Opelika, Alabama police department. The cards feature color player photos on white card stock. The backs present safety tips for children. The last three cards of the set feature "Tiger Greats," former Auburn athletes Bo Jackson, Rowdy Gaines, and Chuck Person. The key card in the set is Frank Thomas. The sports represented in this set are football (1, 3, 5, 11-13, 16), basketball (4, 6, 9-10, 14), baseball (2), and swimming (15). A card of Bo Jackson playing Football has been recently discovered. Since very few of these cards are known it is not considered part of the complete set.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
Interesting blurb in their listings about no fee consignment services and free PSA/BGS grading.
Maybe they can offer that because of the sky high BIN/BO instead of auctions to make sure they get their price? Curious what their cut is vs. PWCC or RP.
Beckett's discription isn't quite right, but close enough. The football version is part of the 16 card set and is much more plentiful. The baseball version and the 2 other cards came before the 16 card set.

smalltraditions.com runs a one a month online auction on there web site and they want consignments for their auctions. They don't collect money from the seller because they charge a 15% buyers premium to the buyer. I think it really is a good deal for sellers. I have personally consigned to them in the past and have had no problems. As for the asking price of his ebay auctions, i would say he is off the mark.

Here is an example that sold for $100.
