I Hate Having a Collecting Focus Now

Well, the first National I've been to where I did not make any transaction at all - not a single buy or sell. I did see a great deal I wanted to buy but disciplined myself to stay focused to my collection only. Too many times in the past I would not make, for example, a $100 purchase on a great item because it was "too expensive", only instead to purchase 100 items for $1 each because it seemed "cheaper" and regret having nothing but junk later. I saw a few items, but they were outside a budget that got downsized from a major auction win a month back.

Anywho even though I was not able to find anything in my apparently too narrow collecting focus, I may have had more fun at this National than any other National or major regional show I've ever attended. I met a few great members on these boards, including sharing doggie woggie photos, car purchase consultants, and hearing a redemption promotion story that is kind of a reason why I never wanted to participate in redemptions, talked with a dealer to learn more about a previous purchase, talked with a number of other dealers and learned more about a White Whale I wish was part of my collection so I could add it to my want list - Old Judge - Art Whitney with Dog, and heard some good talks at the Net54 Dinner that included one, if taken to its full promise, could even eliminate or greatly deter if not all theft, some of the theft that occurred at the show and been discussed here, and stories that covered the range of a box of football cards in a shoebox to Babe Ruth's World Series ring, Barry Halper, and Charlie Sheen. With an open bar to boot.

I may even travel to next years National with a replenished budget. Cleveland is an easy day's ride away.
