Post National Poppage - tough Stan Musial card

This is a beater - but they are pretty hard to come by, and I believe it is Stan the Man's first card:

POOR 1 1946 PROPAGANDAS MONTIEL LOS REYES DEL DEPORTE 64 STAN MUSIAL LOS REYES DEL DEPORTE

Here's a borrowed scan to show what the card looks like (a nicer example than mine):

I should add, since this is a pretty obscure issue, this card is from a Multi Sport Cuban set that also contains players like Ruth, Cobb, DiMaggio & Ted Williams. The cards are on thin paper stock - and out of 134 cards graded by PSA, nothing has graded over a PSA 4. There are only 7 Musial's graded by PSA with three PSA 2's at the top of the charts for him.

Jeff, that's a VERY tough card. Congrats, I have been looking for tht card myself for a long time. This along with a Montgomery Wards card that was also produced in 1946 are Mr Musial's earliest cards. Bravo, thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys - it's always fun to track down the tough ones. I was only aware of this set because it contains some boxing greats, and it wasn't long ago that I was on the hunt for a few of those.

Matt, I don't know anything about the Montgomery Ward set. What's the story with that one?

I do not know a lot about the card, it's extremely rare and have only seen the card via a scan. If FKW sees this, he may be able to chime in and add more info.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

  • There's currently one up on the 'bay! One of the nicer non-ragged examples I've seen.

That should be a very interesting auction to watch. That example is pretty nice.
