What's this spoon collection worth?

Hello everyone, this is my first post here.
I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but I couldn't find a forum that fits this kind of collection.
So my buddy bought a house and he found this collection in the basement.
How much do you think it's worth ?
Pic attached.
Thanks !

Hi kiasy, welcome to the forum, although I must tell you that you in the completely wrong place, as this forum is for U.S. coins only.

As for your question, you can get a basic idea by browsing through eBay lots for sounvenir spoon collections.

The main question is whether or not you have any sterling silver spoons in the collection. They are almost always marked if they are silver. You can take them to a local antique shop in your area and they can tell you if you are not sure. In general, souvenir spoons are worth very little (less than $1 each), although there are certainly exceptions. Very early spoons have a chance of being valuable, and certain issues are collectible (i.e. early World's Fair spoons).

You would really need an expert to check out the spoons as they can be made from base metals or copper and maybe silver. Also rarity would be a factor. Good luck.

    Woods beat me.

BTW a lot of those were made with sterling silver so don't clean them. Sometimes the tarnish is what tells what they are.

I guess you could try the PM forum but their answer will likely be "how much do they weigh?"

Judging from the picture I would say most if not all are the garden variety one would find at a gift shop. Not to many come in silver but if they are it will be marked Sterling or 925. Your options are selling as a lot, break them up into smaller lots or painstakingly list them one at a time on Ebay. I am basing this on experience. Personally I would take Lakesammmans offer. JMHO.

about twice what a fork collection would bring to a cereal eater.
  • Hello,

I can't make out much from the scan but if you have any ocean liner spoons, specifically Cunard, you will know them by the crest, engraving and hallmarks), I would be interested. Pre WW1 Cunard spoons are engraved with the name if the ship in the bowl.

    Best wishes,

Many of these spoons are silver plate. Worthless as bullion but as mentioned some of the earlier ones are highly collectable. My Granny had a collection that I guess went to the dump after she died. I was unable to be there when my a$$hole brother & uncle cleaned out the house nearly 40 years ago . . . imageimage

Need the following OBW rolls to complete my 46-64 Roosevelt roll set:
    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

After going to 5 flea markets in 2 weekends, my answer would be "Dont get into 'collectible' spoons"...

Hi and imageto school! I'm sure your spoon collection is awesome, but like previously mentioned, I'd stick to coins. Far more interesting and have a wider range in collectibility. Someone might answer your question sooner or later? In the meantime, get ready to learn and receive knowledge through this forum. Stick around, even if you don't find an answer to your problem. -joeyimageimage

I made a You Tube video with regards to a spoon once. It wasn't well received. But I wouldn't mind having a statehood quarter spoon or two. PM me if you have them. image
