<< <i>Gotta put Bad Vlad on the list. He could square up a ball at his shoetops or up in his eyes, just a natural hitter. >>
I was just thinking Vlad... so fun to watch.
Griffey is my obvious choice for the sweetest swing, but some of my honorable mentions (modern) are Bryce Harper, Alfonso Soriano, Josh Hamilton, and of all people Albert Belle.
Gotta go with Junior. A power-generating thing of beauty with what always appeared to be the least amount of effort, a la Fred Couples or Ernie Els with a golf club.
I also concur with the comments about Vlad the Impaler, my all-time fav. Kinda hard to dislike the swing of a guy who could go upper tank on nut-high fastballs.
<< <i>I feel like it was while watching a Tigers game a few years ago they were talking about sweetest swings, and the announcer mentioned that it was always the lefties with the best looking. It seems like 90% of the responses thus far have been left handed hitters.
On topic: KGJr. I was going to say Adam Dunn, because I've never seen someone swat at air with more power in my life. >>
I would add Babe Ruth and Eric Davis to the list of powerful air swats.
Sweetest swing: Miggy (totally biased but most of the guys listed here were dead pull hitters, Miggy hits to all fields and goes with the pitch. Just a joy to watch). Most violent swing: Biggy (P. Fielder swings like he is in a Hobbit themed acid flashback hacking at illusionary Orcs). Reggie Jackson is a close 2nd. Most interesting swing: Rod Carew. It looked like he would "throw" his bat at the ball.
That's actually a great call. He was awesome. I remember his 87 Donruss cards were in high demand. I was buying them left and right because I thought he was as sure a thing as there was. Then I met him at a card show in San Diego and he was a super cool guy and from the point forward, I was a huge fan.
Why did his career fizzle out? What happened?
