I'd just like to start off by saying it was great to meet some of you guys this year and put some faces to the names I see here in the forums. The daily gathering a BBCE was a great idea and loved every minute it. Hope to do it again in Cleveland next year.
One of my main goals this year was to get to BBCE's booth ASAP on Wednesday afternoon and not for any unopened product! Ever since it was mentioned they were going to have a complete graded run of Kahn's Wiener cards I had to see if I could get my hands of a few Jimmys that I needed! I got there within 10 minutes after 4:00 and saw all 6 Jimmys on the top shelf. I asked Reed to see the 3 I needed, a '59, a '60 and a '61. The '61 was a PSA 8 and priced out of my range but the other two, a 5.5 and a 1.5 were destined to be mine! I also picked up 2 '61 Fleer wax packs at the same time. I had been eyeing them for months up of BBCE's website and told myself I would bust at least one at the National if they were there. More on those later...
Here are the two new Jimmy additions to be collection. BTW, this are the only 2 graded cards I've EVER bought as a show!
My other focuses this year were going to be on my '53, '58, '59, '68 raw sets and my '72 graded set.
I'd like to give thanks to mojorob and his great thread for the inspiration to break out the camera instead of scanning everything.
First are the '53s, I love this set and decided last year to finally start a Bowman set and '53 was it!
I've had a full '58 set for a couple years now but a large part of them came from a partial set I bought and it had many creased and some badly off centered card so I'm slowly upgraded it.
'59 Topps is another fairly recent addition that was sparked by obtaining a very nice partial set off eBay. These mostly filled holes but a few are upgraded as well.
The last of the raw set pickups are the '68 Topps. This was yet another recent set I obtained an almost complete set of (minus most of the stars) that was in pretty good shape. You may notice an example of what happens when you don't correctly mark things off your list when you find them
Next up are some pickups I will be getting graded to add to my only yearly set that I will probably ever work on!
I'm not sure way I bought these...
And lastly comes the pack rips!!!!!
As mentioned earlier, I did bust 2 - '61 Fleer packs (one each day) that yielded the following cards. There were no major hits but man these cards were nice! 8 of the 10 cards are near perfect with the other two having corner issues. They're all going to PSA at some point.
Here are the good results from a 2 - '78 wax, 2 - '81 wax and a '72 2nd series wax pack.
Here are the "good" results from 2 - '86 was and 1 - '86 rack pack
I also busted a '72 1st series wax pack (non-BBCE) with no showable results
Overall, it was a great National for me.
