Cool Unopened Find (at my parent's house)

So I took my wife and son to visit my parents last weekend. While we were there I ended up checking out some of the cards I collected when I lived at home (I moved out when I went to college in 1994). I started collecting in 1988 and stopped collecting around 1993 so most of these are cards I bought with my older brother and Dad when I was about 11-16. I had a few valuable singles back then (an MJ 86 Fleer and Bird Magic RC which I had already taken in previous trips home) but mostly I had a bunch of Topps Baseball and Pro Set Football and the like from that time period. When I was poking around this time I found box with a stash of unopened material that I forgot I had bought. My brother and I bought a bunch of unopened packs at one of the last shows we went to.

There's scans below of some of the loose packs I had in a box. My brother doesn't collect anymore so this is basically like a present 16 year old me is giving to 36 year old me. Not pictured is a semi-full box of 1985 Donruss Baseball (about 20 packs I would guess) and an almost full box of 1983 Fleer Baseball (probably 25-30 packs). I had limited room in my suitcase, so I left those behind and brought these back with me. Apparently 16 year old me had the foresight to put the packs safely in team set bagsimage There was also autographed Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax and Lou Brock single signed baseballs (my father took me to a bunch of shows in San Francisco back then and I have a good sized collection of autos from 1960's players who were on the autograph circuit back then; I will probably put up some pics of those some day).

These are 16 1984 Topps FB packs. I remembered buying these packs.

These are some 1982 Donruss and Topps Baseball packs. I forgot I had these. I also forgot I had the 1985 Donruss and 1983 Fleer (almost full) boxes. Nice surprise. 16 year old me had at least some decent taste in unopened packs back then. You will also see a random 1992 Topps pack. Apparently I bought a box of 1992 Topps and before I opened the pack I found this pack had (former #1 pick and future Yankee superstar) Brien Taylor on the top. I preserved it unopened for its future value and now I will cash it in. I wonder what it will bring on BSTimage

A pack I completely forgot about that does have some value and has a star on it is this 86 Football with Jerry Rice on the bottom. It is in pretty good shape. If the centering were better on the card I would think about ripping it and trying to submit for a 9. It's not worth ripping for an 8 though. Very excited to find this pack though as I was looking to buy a Rice on top or bottom pack and now I don't have to (at least for a while until I see one on top worth getting).

Usually these stories start with, "Mom, remember my old baseball cards?" And she replies, "Oh honey, I threw those out years ago." Glad those treasures were still there to greet you.

When I went home to visit, all I found were dog-eared late 80s commons, LOL! Great find!

I'm still trying to figure out what was wrong with 16 year old you that you left anything unopened. My stuff never lasted that long. image

    Congrats on the cool find.

My mom found my 1988 and 1989 Topps factory sets recently.
