Thanks to everyone at the National (I'm guessing), I've been winning some auctions for much less than items would normally go for. Anybody else notice? I'll have to mark this on my calendar every year image

    I've never benefited from this National Effect, but I've heard of it. Frank Thomas collectors must not go to the Natty.

    I actually had a pretty good day of activity yesterday on my pending auctions as a seller.
    Always looking for vintage White Sox cards at reasonable prices.

    This is a really bad time to run anything less than a 7-day auction. Snipe programs don't take days off, but snipers do.

    I actually haven't had much time to ebay lately, but I did pick up some really cool stuff where the seller accepted best offers I didn't think he would.

    I'm thinking the usual suspects either didn't have time to snipe or all their money went to the national. I've won 100% of my snipes the past couple days (normally closer to 50/50) and had 43/44 best offers accepted.

    BoB, sorry to hear you haven't experienced the same. Surprising, since you'd think there would be a lot in the Chicago area.

    I was at the National yesterday looking for a Rose RC in a PSA 7 with good centering. Didn't really find one that also matched my pocketbook. Well today on the bay a PSA 7 comes up at $1099 OBO. I make a reasonable offer and boom I now have my Rose RC!!! I'm pumped! This card was on a 5 day listing and I got it within the first 3 hours. The centering L/R is perfect. The T/B is a little to the top but not bad.

    I wish everyone had been pre-occupied. Apparently my $3,885.55 bid on a 71 Banks PSA 9 wasn't enough. I'm a little stunned and bummed right now.
    Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all "right-thinking" people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

    This is known as “bad luck.”

    What was your offer. J/k. Mine was 1040. No counter was made. I figured I had to be over $1000. With eBay bucks that's $1019. Not bad IMO

    The same buyer picked up the 71 Stargell PSA 9 right after it for $1,025. The last one sold last year for $480.
