~*~*~ Unofficial Bargain Bin for week of 7/28/13 to 8/4/13 ~*~*~

Please feel free to post your own <$100 bargains here. The traditional etiquette rules apply.

Since there is no longer a "sticky" Bargain Bin at the top, maybe we can all take turns doing one each week, starting on Sundays?

We used to do it on the Darkside forum this way, before we got our own BST.

So maybe if you're the first to notice there isn't a new one up on Sunday, you can have the honor of posting it?

I have taken it upon myself to do one for the coming week. So bring it!!! Post yer goodies! image

Here are my Bargain Bin offerings for the week. All prices postpaid.

Ancient Greece: Cilicia, Tarsus, Civic Coinage, bronze AE21, ca. 2nd-1st centuries BC

NGC Fine (Strike 5/5, Surface 2/5). Ex Imperator Coins & Antiquities, 1/28/2013.

The seller was more specific with the date, placing it circa 164 BC. This was an extremely inexpensive piece, and cost me less than the slab it's in. Full disclosure: if you buy this, you're mostly paying for the plastic. Some might not mind that, though, because I thought this was neat enough to be worthy of a slab. Despite being relatively modest in grade, it does have some nice desert patina, and I've always liked those Tyche* portraits with the turreted crown. How often can you find NGC-slabbed ancients from the BC era in this pricerange? Slab images on the NGC cert verification page.*
    $55.00.

Ancient Greece: Mysia, Adramyteum, bronze AE12, ca. 4th century BC

NGC Choice VF (Strke 4/5, Surface 3/5). Ex-Andreas Reich ("areich"), Germany, through a trade on the FORVM Ancient Coins board, 7/17/2012.

Mount Olympus is in the region once known as Mysia*, so it is not surprising that the obverse of this coin features Zeus, and the reverse an eagle, which was his symbol. This is a small coin (see the slab pictures on the cert verification page for scale), but its small size and bronze composition make it much, much more affordable than the larger silver coins of the era. I acquired this cute little piece for a song (well, some fossil shark teeth, actually), so the plastic slab it is in actually cost me twice as much as the coin itself! I like it for the well-rendered Zeus portrait, of course. Slab images on the NGC cert verification page.*.
    $57.00

I do have some other affordable NGC certified ancients available.

Australia: 7-coin proof set, 1985, original case.

KM-PS47; mintage 74,809. Seven coins: 1-, 2-, 5-, 10-, 20-, and 50-cent coins, plus kangaroo dollar. Original blue "leatherette" booklet-style case with snap closure. Some minor scuffiness to plastic but nothing major. Coins look great, with deep mirrors and DCAM contrast. 2013 KM catalog value = $65.00. I'll basically offer it for half that.
    $33.00.

Czechoslovakia: silver 100 Korun, 1977, PCGS PR66 DCAM.
KM88; .700 silver/.3376 oz. Low mintage and survival, top pop. Only 5,000 struck, many of which were withdrawn and melted in 1999.
    $44.00.

    USA: 1879 Indian cent, VF.

Dark, with "CircCam" contrast. Not as porous as the photos would have you believe. The surfaces look fine to me under my 7x loupe. I think you'll be quite pleased when you see it in person, but if you aren't, send it back and I'll refund your money and return shipping plus an extra buck for your trouble.
    $20.00.
