Fake 1971 cellos on ebay

Fake 71 cello

We all know these cellos are fake, I'm just curious as to whether the cello wrap looks fake, as I have little experience detecting fake cellos and would like to learn.

certainly bad--cello looks more like late '70s cello wrap. I own 2 legit and now PSA slabbed '71 cellos. both PSA-7. Cello is tight as a drum as they say--and the cello looks to be much thinner than post '74 or '75 Topps cello wrap

That's what I thought. What is the almost identical outer-box that I have seen which says "30 Baseball Cards" where it says "Topps Baseball Cards" on these?

The "30 Baseball Cards" is what you should see on a 1971 cello box.

Are there OPC cellos from 1971 and did they use the exact same boxes?

Just trying to become more knowledgeable about unopened vintage stuff. Thanks man.

NP, my pleasure. No, OPC produced only wax packs in 1971, and throughout the 70s for that matter.

Cool. I was just curious because it says something about OPC distribution in Canada on the box bottoms. Thanks again.

NP. Most Topps packs from this era bear the OPC affiliate production info on the wrapper.

That is correct, as well. I was surprised, too, to see that those "grocery" cellos were listed by the dugout unopened wax, as they have a pretty good reputation otherwise.

Like Murphy with his Xmas racks and penny stock tips, he just trashed his reputation. Takes years to build and minutes to destroy.

  • I bought one of these 71's, had major doubts going in but the seller has a return policy and anything I'm unsure I run through my Amex as they have no questions asked purchase protection.

Received the item. And immediately contacted the seller to arrange refund. He was understanding and accepted the return with no hassle at all.

They are very poor reproductions in many ways.
