Liquidating some of my collection

I am currently liquidating a lot of my collection including my 1961 Fleer Basketball PSA 7 set. I am doing this to buy a nice engagement ring for my wife to be. I have sold about $4,000 so far and it has been an experience. Most of the first $4,000 were partial psa sets I knew I probably couldn't complete. I am now getting into the meat of my collection that I thought I would never sell. I am an avid basketball collector and I am going to hold on to my Star sets and Jordan's. It has been nice talking to other collectors who are putting together the sets I am and was selling. It was hard putting some of the items up but once I did it has made it easier to put up other cards. I sold a nice 1975 topps baseball set and a nice 1971 almost complete Football set. I hope to put those sets back together somewhere down the road. I guess I'm just sharing this because I'm sure many others have gone through the same thing. I never really collected cards for their monetary value. I just loved the feeling of owning these cards from a bygone era and the thrill of putting sets together one card at a time. It has been nice to raise some quick cash selling and I'm sure she will never understand how much the hobby means to me. But those things can be replaced while she is priceless! Seeing the post with all the opened boxes and crisp cards from the 60s and 70s just gets me excited about the hobby again. I'm so glad I opened that first pack of 1979 Topps when I was 8 years old. I have been hooked ever since.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Congratulations on your engagement, I applaud your decision to sell the majority of your collection for the engagement ring. I have always thought that I would sell a portion of my collection when my time comes with a special lady...only problem is that none of the ladies were too special! The first item I was going to sell was a Michael Jordan Upper Deck Authenticated Autographed Basketball, kind of glad I have held on to it!

I did the same thing about a year ago to purchase an engagement ring. I sold about 90% of my collection to get her the ring of her dreams. It was worth every penny. However, I must admit, it was tough to send off the first batch of cards to Rick Probstein. It did get easier to sell them once the checks started rolling in though. I have recently started to rebuild my collection. It will take some time though to get it back to where it was. I need to decide on a collecting focus and go from there. I am thinking HOF RC's, but not really sure. Anyway, congrats on your decision and I wish you the best!
