Epson Perfection v500

Howdy,

Has anyone used this scanner for cards? It seemed like a decent price with a high resolution. I'd appreciate any experience you have with this model.

Thanks,

Nate

That looks great, thanks. Do you use something black behind or it naturally looks like that?

  • if you leave the cover open when you scan you get that nice black background

  • Epson is very good for vintage cards. It does not work well on the modern shiny cards-(refractors especially).

Are there scanners which do handle refractors, etc... well, or should I just take a properly lighted photo?

It needs to be dark in the room for this to work. If you ever sell raw cards this is a must in my opinion if you want to showcase the condition.

I'm having a tough time pulling the trigger on a scanner...because I could buy 8 or more Bo Jackson cards for the price of a good one. Difficult call.

This may depend on the scanning element (CCD vs CIS). The room I scan in isn't dark and I get a strong black background with the scanner lid up. My scanner has CCD.

Looks like they finally redesigned their lighting on their scanners!

As great as the V30 and V300 scan, I've always disliked the reflections/bright spots left on the cases when scanning slabbed cards with those scanners. I "upgraded" my V30 to a Canon a few years ago when I started the project of scanning my Browns collection.

Which I'm way behind on at this point, seems to be a never ending battle image
