T206 Cobb?

I am looking to make a purchase on this card. There is one currently on eBay that has pretty good eye appeal. What is everyone's opinion on this card as far as grade, PRICE, and overall condition? Obviously it is overpriced, but what would be a good price for this example? If it did get crossed over, what grade would it bring? Here is the link:

  • I wish the seller had a higher-res photo available, but that's an awfully sharp 4.5. From what I can tell, it's essentially just the corners that drove the grade. Any time that's the case, you're going to have a card with really good eye appeal.

Also, not sure the card actually is overpriced. According to VCP, the last (and only) SGC 55 to sell was for $3,743.74 in October 2012. The card has sold in PSA 4.5 four times for an average price of $3,459.59 and the trend is upward. Hard to imagine that this card looked worse than any of the previous 4.5s sold (though it's possible that it's the exact same card as one or more of them). The price is also consistent with the last sales in SGC 50 ($2,313.88) and SGC 60 ($5,119.00).

    I say pull the trigger!

  • Are you the seller Chi? Just kidding! I believe Heritage had one that sold earlier this year but I am not a member. Appreciate any other feedback from you vets.
  • my opinion is that it is above what ive seen cobb greens of that condition go for, either in auctions or private transactions. I dont think it is grossly overpriced - I can imagine a cobb like that going for that price. however, there's a reason why the seller started the bidding at that price rather than starting at 0. Green cobbs maintain their value and have gone up ever so slightly in recent years. so, purchase this if your intention is to keep. dont purchase if youre looking to flip this at some point in the near future.

I think it is accurately graded. You will get it into a PSA 5 holder if you try enough times, but it has too much corner wear to belong in a 5 holder
  • What would be a fair offer for a card of this grade? Are you thinking PSA 4.5 if sent off to be graded?

Not sure what Id offer on that card. But to think of it in another way.
His asking price of 4000.00 for the 4.5 you could have the following.
    1 T206 Green Ty Cobb PSA 3 1600.00
    1 T206 Green Ty Cobb PSA 3 1600.00
    1 T206 Green Ty Cobb PSA 1 750.00
    =3950.00 - 2% ebay bucks 80.00 = 3870.00

I know condition adds value and everything. But I kind of would rather have a stack of this card than one in an average condition.
  • No higher than a PSA 4 on a cross.
