New Handmade Wall Display Cases!

So a few weeks ago i enlisted the help of my grandfather in making some display cases for me to put on my wall. He was a carpenter for over 20 years and then owned a furniture stored for over 30 years. So this kind of thing is right up his alley. All I had to do was give him all of the dimensions and tell him what i wanted and how they should end up looking. He went out and bought all the wood and glass and hardware and built them from scratch. Well they are done and we hung them up yesterday. I figured out they will hold about 55 or so graded cards in each case if they are sitting straight up and down. I filled them up with all of my graded cards for now, and then picked out some of my favorite raw cards to fill up the rest of the free space. I think they look great! Better than any display cases you can buy already made from a company. Thought i would share a couple of pictures, sorry about the quality, I used my phone to take them.

You have any idea of cost? I know you said he purchased the materials, but I am hoping he let you know final "ballpark" price.

I believe it was around $150 to make both of them. That includes the glass, wood, hardware, and stain.

  • Very nice, this is what I am thinking of doing to display my graded pack collection. With packs being so big seems like I'll have to cover the entire wall!

BTW what's the rational of your sorting. It's not by year. My OCD wants to re-arrange to how I would do it sorry.

I was thinking the same thing. Awesome in several ways. And then yes, fantastic cases with cards to match. Congrats

Rookie cards in year order, then non-rookies in order?

Almost. I did my HOF rookie cards in order by year. They took up the one whole case and went into the next case. After that, I did the rest of my graded cards in order by year. These are my non rookies, and rookies of non HOF'ers. After those, I still had some space so i just picked a few random raw cards from my raw collection that I liked, and put them in order by year. So yes, there is a method to my madness. And thanks for all the kind comments. It was special to have them made by my grandfather, and I know he had a good time making them. This is the kind of thing he does in his spare time during the day.

Evan, That is a very cool wall display, particularly when you factor in the fact that it was built by your grandpa. I purchased a case last year from EBAY. Its similar in design to the ones that your grandpa created, and I store my 75 Topps HOFer's set on the wall in my office. Its absolutely one of my most favorite things I own. I would never think about selling that set, as the wall display makes it look like a piece of art work. Congrats on those great display's.
