1993 SP derek Jeter question for those who have graded them before..

Just got one off EBAY and the corners are amazing. However the card have several small "scratches" marks (prolly 4 or so( on it. How much will that hurt, in your opinion.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

Enough to knock it down a couple grades IMO. You might get an 8. I have had a few of these graded and for me it is one of the most difficult cards to try to figure out. It's easy to miss something. Good luck if you do submit it!

I hate those cards. Pulled a Jeter out of a pack in early 94. Scratched right out of the pack. Not deep, not a bad mark really. Had it graded in 2000 or 2001, came back an 8. Those 93's and even the 94's(ARod), I despise those cards image
  • Agreed...that foil has such a problem with scratching. I had one graded a few years ago with similar problems and it came back 8.5. I was happy.

I just graded 12 of them. 2 7's and 10 8's. All pack fresh from a 12 box break. These cards are ridiculously hard to figure out.

1993 SP Derek Jeter PSA 10

Here is a recent sale from EBAY of a PSA 10. No feedback has been left but the card hasn't been relisted either.

That sale can't be legit right?
  • That price is absolutely nuts, and whats more insane is that another 10 sold for $24,450.00 back in May of last year. $12,000 increase in 1 year!! I really need to get this card in a 9. Its a sound investment.

It looks like they bumped it up in the SMR recently.

    1993 SMR

In the notes it says there was a sale in 2012 for $37,000.
  • Most overated / overpriced card in the hobby and the price is artificially inflated. I get that some cards are tough and all, but look at the other foil cards from that year and convince me that there shouldn't be 40+ Jeters. I would bet my house that if a current ten was subbed it would come back as a 9 over and over.

  • I bought the Jeter from the Mile High auction a few years ago for ~$4k . . . at the time, the price seemed crazy, but I wanted the card. Over the past few years, I have had several unsolicited inquiries to buy that card from me for prices higher than the final eBay price. Even if the supply of PSA 10s trickle higher, given he's Jeter, New York Yankee captain with all of those World Series rings and possible 1st ballot HOF . . . there is significant demand for this card.

You did very well on that buy and IMO pops will not go much higher. PSA will protect the folks that bought in at 35k, it would hurt their brand for 10 more cards to hit 10's.

I believe your exact sentiment to be true . . . to protect supply.

From a demand point of view, it will be interesting to see if the current $35k prices hold for a while (given the public knowledge of this transaction), or if it will shake loose some supply to the auction houses. That will be the real test because I believe that most Jeter buyers have not been able to locate cards for private deals.

Wow thats crazy. I could probably list 100 other cards id rather have in mint condition for 35K than the jeter rookie. I have been thinking about buying a PSA 7 or 8 though just to add one to my collection.

There are a hand full of star cards out there with high multipliers for low pop PSA 10's compared to their PSA 9 counterparts.

    Here is one example.

1980 Topps Rickey Henderson: A PSA 9 can be had for $300. Some go higher and some go a little lower. There is a recorded sale in the SMR of $11,042. A multiplier of 36.8.

The 1993 SP Derek Jeter in PSA 10 has become a mythical card and is the type of card where people with a lot of money can't just go out and get one at the snap of their fingers.

I am doubtful that you will see a large infusion of PSA 10's and with his legendary Yankee status I think you will see what feel like eye popping selling prices for this card going forward. With PSA 9's commanding north of $1,000, it is already an expensive card in mint condition and as I have said in the past you get the bragging rights of saying you own one of the best. With only 10 PSA 10's out of 10,460 submitted and a large number being submitted to BGS too, it is rare company to be in to hold one of the 10's and that is worth money to people.

It is also worth noting that there are only 454 PSA 9's out of 10,460 submitted to PSA which is a low percentage of PSA 9's as well. To put that is perspective there are 2,124 PSA 9 Michael Jordan's out of 13,575 submitted to PSA and there are 1,318 PSA 9's of Rickey Henderson graded out of 12,166.
