If you are not shipping everything with a delivery confirmation you should!!!

A few days ago I logged into my PayPal account and saw an entry I did recognize.

Here it is.

Jul 13, 2013 Temporary Hold To Fred DeName Removed Details Temporary Hold To Fred DeName 4YV641119G408262W -$73.50 USD

It turns out that the guy opened a case through PayPal on the 14th of July suggesting he had not recieved his card.

With his best offer he submitted he indicated the card was for his sons birthday and that he was really hoping I would accept his offer. I did and he paid right away. The card was shipped the next day and recieved on the third day and feedback was left by him the following day.

Here is the card I sold.

For those who have blocked bidder lists this punks EBAY ID is freddyd55_123

Apparently you can open disputes through PayPal that have nothing to do with EBAY and they do not use feedback as proof a card was recieved. Had I not used a tracking number I would be out the $70.

I have been using tracking on everything I have sold recently but did not in the past.

Going forward there are no exceptions on my part. Tracking everytime!

So what happened? You gave paypal the tracking number showing the guy received the card and they closed the case in your favor?
  • bcubsbcubs Posts: 344 ✭✭✭
If you print your shipping through ebay you get tracking on everything you ship so this should not be difficult to do.

    Appreciate today-

I did not even know that I had a case opened as I don't check the email address much associated with my PayPal account.

I just called to see what the issue was and that is when I found out he had opened a case. The phone representative said that becuase I had a valid tracking number and it showed delivered they automatically ruled in my favor and closed it.

What is wild is that even if the buyer leaves feedback, PayPal doesn't use that as proof the item was recieved. You must have a valid tracking number.

Spending the extra money for tracking is worth it.

PayPal doesn't give a poop about feedback. it's got nothing to do with a binding agreement to pay.

and their policy has become pretty easy to understand. prove that a postal worker scanned a package somewhere within the intended vicinity and you win.

I just dealt with a similar situation. I don't understand why these clowns leave feedback if they're planning on filing a false claim.

They may be hoping you either don't notice the subsequent open case since you think everything is good and/or that you toss the tracking information after realizing the transaction was good and he left the positive feedback while hoping you didn't print it through eBay. Or they could be idiots.

This is why I stopped shipping to Canada. Guy claimed he didn't receive package ($30 worth of cards including a nice bowman chrome Derek Rose rc before his big playoff run) and filed a claim. He received the cards after filing claim, I know this because he left positive feedback. He never closed the case so he won the case and received his money back. PayPal said eBay feedback was not proof, only delivery conf. Lesson learned!

I am not sure as I have never used the EBAY shipping option. I did click on the link and will look into it.

At the post office it is $0.90.

If you ship through eBay, delivery confirmation is free. Plus you save on shipping costs. I recently purchased a digital scale to weigh all my packages and had the scale paid off from all the money I saved in shipping by using eBay labels.

I don't believe anything that I have ever shipped with delivery confirmation has ever been lost. But, I have shipped some ebay items in a PWE and about 1/3 to 1/2 don't make it.

i sold something on ebay a few months ago and the guy emailed me about a week later stating that he never received his item. I did have a tracking number and told him that my tracking number shows that it was delivered 1 day earlier. He then responded to me that he just saw the package after he sent an email. i think i avoided a scammer.

I go to the post office as well and it is 90 cents for DC.
For single non slabbed cards that aren't to expensive I ship in a birthday or Christmas card( I have a million of them!). Thicker envelope and card and same price as a pwe. No DC. People love it!

    +1

It took me a while to be convinced to ship through ebay/Paypal but now I exclusively do it. I save so much money this way, with the discounted postage and the free Delivery Confirmation. It's a no-brainer. I used to have to walk into the Post Office and wait in line almost every day to mail ebay sales, now I just drop it into the blue box and drive away. Can't beat cheaper and easier!

Thanks for the addition to my block list!

Plus when you ship through ebay/Paypal it automatically adds the DC number to your auction so you don't have to manually plug it in. Like I said, a no-brainer.

I would do that but I don't like having stuff sit outside my house or even in my mailbox. I drive past a PO to and from work so that blue drive-up box is pretty convenient.

Not tracking. Which is the old delivery confirmation and the new name for it.

The number you get with the basic first class mail you can't follow online.

On line tracking is the new term for delivery confirmation. It is free of charge for 1st class and priority mail, and will generate automatically on the label if you use ebay shipping option, which is the best way to go because the buyer gets the tracking # as soon as the label is printed (you don't have to do anything), and for top-rated seller status, you must upload tracking numbers within 24 hours to get the 20% discount on the final value fees, which can add up these days.

Is there any risk to using the drop box without seeing your items actually get scanned in? I always worry that they could get stolen by an employee before the initial scan then you lose everything. I guess on low value items it doesn't matter but on a higher dollar item I would prefer to wait in line. I'm sure the risk is small but has anyone here ever had something go missing from a drop box before it could get scanned?

I personally like to have them scanned at the time of shipment to demonstrate how quickly I shipped the item and that any delays in receipt were due to the postal system.

That said, from what I understand, the scan that matters in terms of Paypal's BPP is the one at delivery.

If I buyer opens a claim saying they didn't receive their item, and there is no delivery scan to the contrary, they will win their claim even if the package was scanned at the time of shipment.

I typically don't sell anything for over $50, but on those rare fantastic times that I do sell a high-dollar item I do walk it into the post office.

I always go inside, ahnd them over and have them scanned.

The last time I just dropped them in the slot at the local PO it was not scanned for 5 days.

I'm lucky because the PO nearest my work MIHGT have 1 person in line when I get there. No foot traffic at all

I had a similar situation and a subsequent indepth chat with a Paypal rep. Basically, chances are there is more than meets the eye with this situation. If the guy didn't have credit card funds, bank funds, either was rejected as a payment, or has had any payment rejected even if this one cleared Paypal goes into protect their own butts mode and will temporarily asign the liability to the seller even though they know you've done nothing wrong... And even have the ability to verify tracking/feedback but dont. you will get your money back but its a messed up system where you essentially have to prove your innocence. I bet the guy didnt get hispayment to clear.... First draw attempt aand this created your situation.

I guess PayPal is lying to me that the person opened a case saying they hadn't recieved the item.

If the guy was purposely trying to screw you over why would he leave you positive feedback, it's a Paypal/bank/liability move.

I dug up one of my incidents for you... these boards are great for preserving stuff like this.

Just for fun I am going to call PayPal again and ask them again.

A good reason Vlad to leave feedback would be to make the seller think everything is okay and then dack door them through PayPal.

I emailed the buyer but naturally he didn't respond.

I will report back my findings.

I had a very nice conversation with the PayPal customer service rep.

The guy opened a claim that he did not recieve his card. Period. There were no issues with his payment what so ever. PayPal did not under any circumstances place a hold to cover their butt.

What is interesting from the discussion is that in some cases PayPal will step up and eat the loss and she said that becuase of my history of 10 years with them they would have in this case.

The reason they do not use feedback to verify an item is recieved is that many times newer members pressure sellers to leave them feedback to help them develop a history. If you are new it can take up to 21 days for your funds to become available and this ties into their policy.

She did confirm this is a common way for buyers to try and scam sellers becuase of the feedback not being taken into consideration. If you have a valid tracking number that shows delivered you win.

    Case closed.

This punk has now taken it one step further and is trying to file a claim through his credit card company. I sent him this email today. It is mind blowing that this stuff occurs but it does. I happened to log into my PayPal account and saw once again I have an open case. I spoke with the PayPal representative and they agree it is a scam and are fighting it on my behalf.

I was blown away when you opened a case with PayPal suggesting you didn't receive the Mike Tyson card I sold you. It was shipped the next day and received by you on the 27th of June. Here is the tracking information below. You then left me positive feedback on the following day. PayPal saw through your BS claim and sided with me before I even knew a claim existed. I logged into my PayPal account today and see that you have now opened a case through your credit card company and I forwarded on to PayPal the positive feedback you left. It is shocking to me that such trash like you exists and are so hard up for money that you would try and steal from me in such a manner. You will lose this case and I am furious I ever dealt with you. I sold you a nice card and shipped it immediately with care. I should have known better when you said it was for your sons birthday that you were a potential scammer. You don't know it but you are on a lot of blocked bidder lists and will be on more after this second stunt. PayPal is going to fight the case with your credit card company and I will do what ever it takes to ensure you lose.

Man gets prison for Yocco's shooting
He will serve one to five years for firing gun in Upper Macungie lot.
    September 30, 2003|The Morning Call

A 20-year-old South Whitehall Township man who fired a shot at an occupied car in a restaurant parking lot has been sentenced to one to five years in state prison.

Frederick A. Dename of 1317 Devon Circle pleaded guilty in August to two counts of aggravated assault and one count of carrying a firearm without a license.
    Ads by Google

He was sentenced Wednesday by Lehigh County Judge William H. Platt, who said that Dename may be eligible for the state correctional system's boot camp.

Dename was charged after a shooting in the parking lot of Yocco's at Route 100 and Penn Drive in Upper Macungie Township.

A witness told police that Dename was supposed to meet someone in the parking lot the evening of Jan. 28 to settle a dispute. An affidavit of probable cause for Dename's arrest didn't say what the dispute was about.

Brandon Weiss of Orefield and Andrew Lantosh of Allentown were waiting in a car when Dename ran toward them, police said. Dename had a knife in his hand, a witness told police.

The car with Weiss and Lantosh left but returned, according to police. Dename had a gun, pointed it at the vehicle and fired a shot as Lantosh ducked and Weiss started to drive away, police said.

Charged -- Frederick A. Dename, 23, of 1317 Devon Circle; Thursday with robbery, simple assault, carrying gun without license and related crimes; about 12:15 a.m. April 12, lured Eric Stinner to car, pulled out handgun and took $4,500 from Stinner outside Stooges bar, 2105 Liberty St., police said; arraigned before District Judge Karen C. Devine of Allentown and sent to Lehigh County Prison under $75,000 bail.

...might not hurt the fraud case though.

    That is crazy.

  • Wow. Some crazy people out there.

I agree. Just move on from this one. Thanks to you, I now include tracking (DC) with everything just to cover myself. Something I wouldn't normally do on $20 and under items.

"pulled out handgun and took $4,500"

Sounds like a 16 oz deal?

    Not a good guy..
  • The article starts off with A 19-year-old South Whitehall Township man turned himself in...

Then later in the article is reads...

Bethlehem police charged Dename with possession of marijuana and driving without headlights in July 2001

So was he driving when he was 7? JK. I'm sure they meant 2011, unless he about 32 and not 20.

Seems like he has a lot more things to worry about such as a $10,000 bail rather than $73 from paypal.

I just did a quick tour of the eBay labels section of their website.

Am I correct in that all labels are printed in 8.5 x 11 format?

    Can smaller labels by printed?
