Can anyone share some advice on how to add more color to your cards when scanning

Just like many of you, I also have the Epson flatbed scanner and my colors seem flat. Any tips on how to make them brighten or stand out more?

Use Photoshop Elements or if you have an Apple, you can use the editing tools in I-Photo

You can use Windows Live Photo Gallery to edit photos. There you can adjust color and exposure and also straighten photos.

Might want to be careful with adjusting colors on scans of cards that you're selling on ebay.

No offense Foo as I have no problem with you or anyone doing that, but wasn't PWCC/Brent lambasted on these forums for doing that?

  • I just want to add "life" to the pictures is all. I didn't even think about eBay till you just mentioned it clockwork but this is just for my own personal scans for my cards. In no way am I trying to alternate something that isn't there. I am familiar with the thread which you are referring to however and there scans were just not natural looking is all. Thats not what I'm trying to do either. My cards look brighter in hand than in the scans image
  • I think it's a fair question Foo. I have the Epson and use an apple and I am looking at ways to enhance the photos only to get them back to real life. The scans are making the cards look dull. Nothing wrong with the scans being as good as original for any purpose.

I don't have that particular scanner, but all scanners have settings you can tweak for things like brightness, contrast, color balance etc. Poke around in the scanner's setup and there will be something you can change to make your scans brighter in color.

I think the stock settings (maybe bump up the dpi) are great- but I scan mostly hand drawn stuff so the colors are more vivid as is.
  • Foo, move your contrast up some. I'm guessing your contrast is set to zero. Move it to around 35 and see how that looks. If still not what you are looking for, move it up some more but increasing the contrast should work.
  • Thanks fella's. I'm going to try a mess with it a little in between the All-Star game tonight and Ill post before and after if I could get something worth showing where it made enough of a differance in color.
