My National Strategy

#1. Don't overpay for any item.
#2. Look and think before I leap.
#3. Try to be cool and not get overly excited to begin.
#4. Don't pay for any autos. IMHO they are all over-priced.
#5. Try to get home without being broke.

Not a great strategy but looking forward to the National. What is your strategy? Are you looking for specific items only? Do you have a spending limit? Just hope I don't go crazy! image

#1. I am looking for specific items and I know the the market value for them and if the price is right I will definitely be buying them.
#2. Wear my walking shoes because I am only going to be there weds and thurs and I want to see as much as possible in the time I am there
#3. Have fun with the dealers even though I have been to several Nationals and know that several of them are let's say "not the friendliest".....lol

Rule #1: If it is a card or item that you really want or need and you're close on the price, don't walk away and think you'll get a better deal later. It will be gone.
Rule #2: Don't be afraid to counter offer a counter offer.
Rule #3: If the price seems too good to be true, look again. There's probably a reason that it is still sitting on the table or in the showcase.
Rule #4: Don't break in new shoes at the National.
Rule #5: Never turn down an offer to eat at Gibson's or Giordano's.
Rule #6: Joe Orlando doesn't really have time to talk to anyone about why their 1988 Donruss Mike LaValliere got a PSA 5.
Rule #7: If anyone sees a 1948 Leaf White Background, I would appreciate a heads-up!!!
Rule #8: The show is big. There's lots of stuff. Make a quick walk around the entire room picking off what you see at first glance. Then go back and be more thorough. You'll thank me on Sunday.
Rule #9: Someone will pull a Jordan from a 1986 Fleer pack. That doesn't mean everyone else that buys one will.
Rule #10: If you try to be stubborn on a price even though you're close, see Rule #1.

Your rule #1 is a good one. I've done this before and like you said gone back and it was gone. This is definitely not your normal show. Whatever you're looking for you can bet there are others looking for the same.

I've actually gone to the National and not purchased anything (in Cleveland). Still had a GREAT time there, but the pricing was just higher than I could justify. It was extremely entertaining to see everything there though, and I can't wait to go back next year!
