Poll: Would you call this "semi-proof-like choice BU?"

This pound is described as PL and BU. It definitely has some eye appeal, but upon closer inspection I see multiple black bits of debris. I also see scratches and marks, too many to list in one sentence. Finally, I'm not sure if that's cameo in the fields or darkened lighting. It looks more satiny than PL, IMHO. So ... what do you think? Would you slab it 65 or above (BU)? image

Looks like a PL BU coin to me!

Probably not a 65 or cameo, though.

Jim, I agree with you about not a 65 or cameo, but I'll be darned if it isn't attractive in a satiny matte kinda way. Do you think it was dipped, perhaps?

Anyway I've got a 64 with more luster and another I can't recall if it's 65 or 66 but I'm not going to bite this time ...

Hmmm, I rather like it. Pictures are hard to read/grade. Looks PL to me, but might make the 65 which from the first set of pics make it look like it would, more "64ish" from the second. Looks dipped and retoned partially. I think it was an attempt to remove the black oxidation spots and maybe worse that is no longer on the coin.

I some years ago got a double mint set (3d, shilling, 2/6 and crown) in lucite at a Heritage auction and still like the design. Don't know why - maybe hoarding that make us want more of these...

I agree about the design, I also love it. I think it's the eagle and scroll that does it. That particular sans-serif font is interesting, too and quite unique as coins go.

I pulled out my album earlier this evening ... My 64 definitely has more luster, and my 65 blows this out of the water in terms of 'brightness' / reflection. The fields are definitely business, though. The second batch of photos here looks like it could be PL but I'd expect more reflection from the eagle. Instead it just looks duller and darker, IMO.

I bought and sold a true PL specimen last year, right here on the forum. Bought it raw, sold it slabbed. It was much deeper cameo compared to these photos.
So I feel like I ought ta be able to recognize another one. But as you said photos are difficult because you just never know what the angles and conditions were. But those scratches and black marks rub me the wrong way. I don't think it'll get the BU or PL. I'm going to say 63-64 or else Details. If I was the seller I'd have slabbed it first.

I looked at the first two pictures and didn't scroll down because I didn't want to be influenced by what others felt and voted BU. Then I scrolled down and looked at the second pictures. Hard to believe it was the same coin. Would have voted Proof like for the second pics. IMHO
