Hello friends,

I'm interested in this card, but I've read that it was "widely" counterfeited. Can any of you XRC experts out there help me figure out what to look for to avoid the fakes?

I am sure there are more, but one thing I've noticed on some of the ungraded examples that raises suspicion as well as those slabbed in GEM Elite holders are overly wide borders, meaning on the L/R, the amount of space between the outer black border and card edge is too wide. The wideness really stands out when the card is very well centered. If contemplating a purchase, make sure you compare to the example on page 6 of the "Post your favorite PSA 10" thread. Those are what 1982 TCMA border width should be. Here's a GEM. Compare this GEM to the PSA 10 in the thread I mentioned. This is a lame attempt when you compare side by side:

These minor league cards from the 80's were and are extremely easy to counterfeit. While many of us can tell you what to look for, it is still easy to miss. I highly recommend you purchase this card already graded from one of the Big 3....just my .02 cents

Hey Big80's, did you ever pick this card up? Were you looking for it graded and any particular grade?

I bought the team set from a local dealer back in the early 90s. Legit cards, but after I looked more closely at the Gwynn a couple of year later, I noticed a corner ding.
