so, did I buy an obvious fake?

bought on impulse. doesn't look terrible to me. I have return option so when I weigh and size it that'll tell me if it's obviously bad...but here are the images.

A pic of the edge would help, but I don't see anything that suggests that this is other than a circulated, moderately chopped 8R. Why do you think it might not be real?

    Looks OK at first glance.

I agree with STLNATS & Dan, nothing wrong with that coin.

I thought it looked ok which is why I took a little poke at it, but the seller is taking a "not familiar with it" type tact so that always raises a red flag. I'll size and weigh it once it comes in, it'll make a nice ballmark for golf if real image

    thanks peeps!

Not an obvious fake, if it it's fake at all. I see nothing wrong with it, either.

PS- it's a CircCam, too. image

If it is fake, it is not obvious, at least to me. I think* it looks fine.

*with my usual disclosure that you can't do this kind of thing from a photo.

There is nothing I see that appears to be fake whatsoever. I am not sure that it is special, unless one of the countermarks are one of the good ones.image Otherwise, it is just another counter marked coin. -Dan
  • to me, it's obvious that it[s NOT a fake.

only way to make sure is to have a expert look the coin over

  • C'mon, Frank, real or not it'll make an excellent ball marker. If it's fake it'll just be a ball marker you paid too much for. image

LOL TRM image GREAT to see you posting image hope you're well!

just to put a bow on this, received the coin and it totally kicks butt. I have zero concerns about it not being real, perfect ringing silver and the heft and size are just right. sooo neat looking and inexpensive enough to just keep in your pocket!!!
