1980 Topps Vending Box - Price?

First off, I'd just like to say "hello" to everyone here. I posted a couple messages yesterday introducing myself, but now I have a question to ask the brain trust here. I've really started getting back into the hobby within the last couple months and my main focus is on early 80's Topps products -- Wax, Cello, Rack pack boxes. I have about 12 unopened boxes thus far that include 81, 82, 83, & 85 and am really interested in the '80 set. The problem is, as I'm sure many of you are aware of -- the price between a box of unopened 81's compared to the 1980 box is HUGE, 3 times the price in most instances. Anyway, my question, I saw a guy on ebay selling unopened Vending boxes of '80 Topps, he has 4 available and they all look to have come from BBCE, so I'd assume they're legit. I was just curious if the asking price of $250/box is "market value"?? Thoughts? Here's the link.

$250 is a bit high, imo. I believe when Steve sold these boxes recently, they were around $195, iirc.

  • Well, I figured they'd be higher than what Steve was selling them before. I haven't seen them on BBCE's website since I've been checking it, so I would assume the guy bought a bunch of them and is trying to flip them for a small profit. It's the first time I've actually come across them on ebay, so I was just curious.

Just noticed too that the auction is BIN/OBO, so you'd likely be able to buy a box for less than $250 per anyway.

I currently note 2 1979 wax boxes, 3 79 vending boxes, 2 1978 Wax boxes, 2 78 vending boxes, and a 1977 wax box. Most appear to be quality items from BBCE or personal long time collections. Not too often you see this 'much' 70's on ebay anymore
  • Just a quick update -- So, the seller is actually a frequent poster on here and noticed my thread. He sent me a message and I wound up getting 2 of the boxes for a little cheaper than the $250. (Woohoo!) I think I'll bust one open, and I'll save the other for a rainy day. Thanks to all who commented in regards, it helped. I guess there's another reason why I'm glad I signed up to this forum. image

p.s. Apologies if mentioning doing business outside of ebay is frowned upon on here. I just figured I'd inform the masses.
  • Im slowly selling/trading my run of 60's-80's boxes, cases, and packs.
Just traded [2] 1980 wax for $300.00 + a t206 psa4 HoF portrait Fred Clarke. The card would have cost me approx 250-300. Both ends are very happy.
