Lordmarcovan quits the Registry game (at least for a time...)

It's been fun, but I find myself losing interest. I plan to keep my 20th Century Major Design Gold set up a while, since it's complete. (I need to swap the Saint in there for another I have, though). Otherwise, I will disassemble the remaining remnants of my old 1900-Present set, having already sold off the post-1964 coins. I will be keeping my gold at least briefly (might offer the set for sale as one entity- it was #7 last I checked). I will be keeping the Benson PR63 CAM Barber half, my Barber quarter, my Type 1 SLQ, and a few others. Otherwise, I'm gettin' out of the game and going back to my "Darkside" roots. Maybe I'll buy a Gothic Crown with some of the money, who knows? My taste in US coins has gotten too expensive. I have decided to focus on 10 to 20 really spectacular piecesI think I'll play with some nice proofs, maybe early-date world gold, and crowns and thalers for a bit. There will still be a few US coins that will turn my head, like that incredible Shield nickel that BigD5 offered a while back. I'll still be around. But when you talk about me from now on, you can shake your head sadly, and say things like:

<< <i>He was a nice fella, and had some nice coins, but then he was seduced by The Dark Side, poor guy..." >>

See ya around- it has been nice chatting, competing, and trading with you all. I'll drop in and visit once in a while, and will let you know when I am ready to sell my coins. Maybe one day I'll jump back into it. image

Sigh... it was only a matter of time given that drawing in his signature. Poor guy. (Shaking head sadly.)

That scares me (the way you say that you have seen the dark side). Starting tomorrow, all of my Canadian coins go out the window. image

    Canada isn't the 'Darkside'. It's just our 51st state. . .

Mexico our 52nd state? No- we need a vacation spot that is close and warm. Plus, who's going to sweep up when we're done?

I feel as if I have lost a member of the family. It is a sad day when a person of great integrity , insight and knowledge leaves this forum. I fear that we will all be the worse for it. Good luck and God bless you Lord Marcovan, you will be deeply missed by all. A very sad bear indeed.

Well, Lord. We follow each other around, from Ebay to Scott's board to here. Who knows where it'll be next? (No, it WON'T be the Dark Side!) I've no doubt it'll be somewhere.

    Stay in touch!

I took a quick peek "over there", and caught Shiroh in this thread.

Looks like it might be lightening up a bit over there. Could a Canadian registry be far behind?

True enough, Bill, I'll...be...back (spoken in cheesy Arnold-esque accent).

Great pic. On my announcement over there, I got a pic of Darth Vader. Heheh.

Let's not call it retirement- just semi-retirement. As primarily a dealer of Darkside material, I gotta hang out with my customer base, who are fine folk, of course. Since my gold set somehow climbed to #6 in my absence, I suppose I gotta keep it for a time. Gonna sell a lot of my other stuff, though, and might even need to drop the gold, since I gotta pay for this sporty new $1500 laptop somehow. (Does anybody know how to select lines of text to copy and paste with these @#%&amp;* touchpad thingies? I still find myself reaching for a mouse that isn't there...)

Carl- I see you "iconized" that lovely dime. Speaking of throwing Canadian (aka "Greyside") coins out the window, someone offered me a holey Edward VII large cent, which is too new for my vest. I told him to offer it to you.

And in Lightside large cents, Big Eng, I'm afraid I have nothing but culls and holeys at the moment. Did you join EAC like you were discussing?

Not gone, and not forgotten, it is nice to see. I'll be around, but mostly in The Dark for a while.

We will get you next. You shall all be slaves to The Immortal Darkness. It all starts with an innocent-looking little Roman coin, or perhaps a British halfpenny from the 1700's. Then you notice how much more affordable those even-older coins are. There is no hope for you after that. Surrender and submit. The Light is sooo boring. image

Nice to see the Keets icon working well. My new "Rule Britannia" has gone red-X a few times already.

Supercoin- some kind of "Dark" Registry option is long overdue. I think that when it happens, (and it probably will, eventually-PCGS is too smart to pass on the opportunity), it will probably start with Canadian coins, since they are not fully "Dark Side", but more "Greyside", really. There are plenty of US collectors of Canadian coins, not to mention a lot of Canadians on these forums. It's all but inevitable, I would think. I would like to see a British sovereign type set Registry, since I am fond of both Brit coins and type collecting. Why sovereigns? Well, that's easy. I am guessing there are thousands already in PCGS holders (they are extremely popular yet affordable gold coins, after all...)

When there is a registry set for coins of Burkina-Faso or Luxembourg, you'll know that we Darksiders have conquered all resistance. Bwahahaha. image

BTW, I am gonna rip off one of your ideas and do a "buy my icon" post before long. Except the coin my icon came from is probably worth five bucks, tops. (1980 proof 50-New Pence). See what I meant about real beauty being affordable on the Dark Side? image

Lord: Do I have to follow you around and buy your next set that is going to be for sale too?????

At the rate I am going I will have to change my name to lordoreville, thanks to you?

    Say it ain't so!!!!

Just don't sell just yet. Just hold off buying for a while. Your finances will catch up when you slow down in buying.

Buy the way.... this is a fellow collector with a charming beautiful baby girl.......must be buying an awful lot of clothes and gifts and toys!!!!!!! Just no room for coin money.........I am sure most of us remember that reality!!!!

I am a fickle creature, ain't I? I guess it's the thrill of the hunt, for me. On most coins, the novelty wears off after a few weeks. I enjoy 'em for a few months, or years, then pass 'em on down the line. I suppose this is anathema to the more traditional folks like my buddy oreville, who bought my first serious type set (well, the Seated Liberty portion of it, anyway). Just call me non-traditional. There's no reason a small vestpocket dealer like myself can't be a short-term collector, is there? I may not hold the coins as long, but I enjoy them just as much while I have them.

There are a few I am keeping, though I have no set collecting interest at the moment. I suppose the dealer in me gets stronger while the collector gets weaker. Except for my "pure" collector pursuit, the infamous "Holey Coin Vest". (Psst! Anybody got a holed 1834 large cent?) image

PS- I will do a preliminary listing on B/S/T before I go to eBay.
