movies and values of cards

I don't keep track of this stuff, but has anyone noticed a price increase in cards and comics prices when movies like Star Trek or Batman are released along with others (superman,spider-man,etc.)? Have you seen an impact (short term or long term) on their cards or comic books ? I have heard that Bo Jackson cards and other memorabilia of his have had a surge since his ESPN 30 for 30 airing (which was great).
Just curious if these thing help long term or does the hype die down after a short while and things go back to where they were before.

For Star Wars at least, there's definitely hype periods where premiums can be had for sellers on even the common stuff and some of the rarer/unusual stuff becomes available as a buyer. Usually around movie announcement, trailer release, and first week or two it's in the theater. Large jumps in price are usually short term, though it can drive some smaller increases long term.

I think there was a recent thread on the impact to Jackie Robinson cards when '42' was coming out.

I think the scenario you describe is in some way similar to sales price increase for new HOF inductees at the time of official announcement.

For example, I sold a bunch of 1990 Pro Set Ray Scapinello (legendary NHL linesman) cards for $3 to $5 each at the time he was elected into the HOF. Try and get more than $0.03 to $0.05 each any time before or after that 1 week or so period. This is the kind of situation that relates to your question about movie items.
