If Larry Fritsch bought all the 1952 Topps high number wax boxes that went into the ocean

What would the price of the Mantle be today if Fritsch bought the 52's the way he bought 72 Topps football high series ?

And....................

Would the hobby be better off if someone actually did buy and hold those cases, or is the hobby better off without them ?

there's gotta be a crustacean down there somewhere dealing away all that booty and calling himself "The Baseball Card Lobster".

One of the things I wonder is, if somebody were to get a machine (like they did in Titanic) and found the cases, what would the condition of the Mantles be? Is it completely cardboard pulp by now, or can you still distinguish each card? The cards I assume were still in the wax, and sealed within the case. Obviously the cards would be warped? If PSA Graded it, it would be Authentic, which would still generate some $

Here's a somewhat related quest, dealing with E.T. video games

The 1982 Atari 2600 “E.T.” video game adaptation of the Steven Spielberg film “E.T.” was so unplayable that, according to a longstanding urban legend, millions of unsold or returned copies were buried at a landfill site in the city Alamogordo, N.M., in 1983.

Now, 30 years later, a Canadian-based film production and entertainment company, Fuel Industries, has decided to search the local landfill and hopes to make a documentary about it, city officials told ABCNews.com.

If we're doing the whole "time machine fantasy" scenario, then I'm going back to the 1800's and having Van Gogh paint me up some masterpieces. Cards would be chump change compared to a painting. image

Heck, no need to go back that far. I would just go back to the early 90's and play the tech bubble like it was my job! image

1800's? 1950's? 1990's? Give me a time machine that takes me back one year (don't even need that long) ... borrow every dollar I can get my hands on ... head out to Vegas ... beer in hand and watch my teams win every game that I play!
