Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
<< <i>Just wondering, what makes this go for so much? Is it because it is opc? Are opc packs from 84 hard to find? >>
It's actually a pop 4 with a 10 pop 1 out there too so it's actually much more common than a Topps Mattingly. I can't believe the price I don't even think I'd pay that price for the PSA 10. It's probably time to sell my PSA 10 Topps cello if I could find either of those two bidding on this one.
<< <i>Where do you find the pop reports for unopened packs? >>
Same place you go to find reports for cards. There is a packs category.

Price was high but was a nice pack and those mattingly fans are hardcore. Had my snipe set at $160 and figured I had this no problem, checked email tonight, that's weird where is by congrats email lol then saw this post!
As mentioned earlier I don't think this is a particular tough pack to find but cool none the less. Good to see and makes the price I paid for a 84 donruss mattingly showing wax pack very cheap in comparison.
can someone help as Ive never understood graded packs....this wrapper isn't straight, but its tight....is the grade on the tightness or how centered / perfect the pack presents itself.... that got a 9 with the wrapper so off center ???

I would have thought that $160 would have gotten this pack too.
The price was about $100 above what this pack generally goes for. Don't quote me, but I believe the last one to sell (less than a year ago) went for around $115. I think this was a case of two collectors really wanting it, and both being willing to overpay so they could "have it now". The second under bid was $97 less than the first under bid. I would imagine that if another was listed soon that it would sell for consideribaly less, but as you said Mattingly fans are hardcore, so who knows!
O/T can you post a scan of your 84 Donruss wax with Mattingy showing? Thanks.
I agree with the sentiment that two strong bidders caused this sale to be so high, but that's all it takes, right ?
I saw a recent card fetch 5 grand on ebay, and 8 bidders were within 10% of the closing sale price. I think that is a stronger indication of a price of a card then what we saw on this auction.
