A couple of Vintage Baseball Pick Ups with Questions
![Fergman78](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/authoricons/beavis.gif)
I participated in an auction yesterday and picked up 4 Baseballs. 2 that are not pictured are a 1971 Cardinals Team Ball and a 1954 Columbus Red Bird Ball. Will post these when I receive them. The other two are a 1951 Cuba Winter League All Star Ball and what I think is a 1946 Red Sox team ball. The Sox ball was listed as an Old Timers AL vs NL ball but upon researching the names it appears a Red Sox Team Ball. The auction also had a 1946 Cardinals Ball so im guessing they were both signed during the World Series. That may have been a "Steal" at $20 since it was mislabeled. My question is can anyone help identify names on the Winter League ball. I paid $55 for it which may be a little high but I just thought it was a really interesting item.

I had those but the name above Mace I'm having trouble with.
<< <i>Bob Skinner in the 2nd pic. >>
Thanks for Skinner. I really haven't had time to thoroughly examine that ball yet. I spent most of last night looking up the Sox ball and the Redbirds ball.

Above Mace Brown, I believe is Earl Johnson. He pitched for the Red Sox in 1940-41, and again from 1946-1950.
Below Brown is Roy Partee, Bill Zuber and Johnny Pesky.
The first photo of the Red Sox ball is Dom DiMaggio, Tex Hughson and Bobby Doerr.
Photo #4 of the Sox ball is Rip Russell, Joe Dobson, Mike Ryba, John Lazor and Paul Campbell.

Thank you. I really hope when the ball comes in Williams and Cronin are there. As far as authenticity goes, do these balls look legit? They came from the Vern and Randy Benson collection.
Other '46 panel is:
Rip Russell
Joe Dobson
Mike Ryba
Johnny Lazor
Paul Campbell

The Padre ball looks completely legit. I checked it against a couple Padre baseballs in my collection, and the signatures match up nicely.

They are all good from what I see.
<< <i>As i study the pictures of The Red Sox ball looks like it is signed on a Charles Feeney ball which means it was signed in the 70's. I'm guessing at some point the 1946 Team was honored and Benson got the ball signed at that event?? >>
I would guess it was signed at a 25th Anniversary gathering in 1971. Chub Feeney became National League President in 1970, and Mike Ryba died December 13th, 1971.
Edited to add that it probably was signed at an old-timers game or WS reunion in St Louis in 1971. That would fit with it being a NL baseball, the fact that Vern Benson was a Cardinals coach that season, and also the 1946 and 1971 Cardinals balls in the group you picked up. Also, Ryba died in Missouri, so his being in St Louis would not have been a stretch.

I believe you are correct. I just googled 25th Anniversary of 46 World Series and found an article about Dom DiMaggio putting on the Red Sox Uniform one last time at an event in St. Louis to celebrate the 25th Anniversary.
The item I really wanted but went a little too high for me was an old timers ball signed by Feller, Banks, Maris, Mays, Aaron, Eddie Mathews, Lemon, McCovey and others. It sold for $625 which I thought was a great deal but more than I could spend. A Game Used Musial Glove went for over $15K and Dizzy Dean's original offer letter and contract went for close to 4K.
Thank you to everyone who has helped me out. It's nice to be able to come to a board and get real answers and people willing to help out and not just give smart ass answers like some other boards I belong to.
