Buying a card from overseas on ebay

I'm considering buying a card which I expect to reach about $100-$150 from another country and have some questions. The shipping is $8.00 but if there are issues with customs what's a typical fee that I would have to pay (if any)? I wouldn't want to pay 150 dollars for a card then have to pay 40-50 dollars for some fees.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • I ship over sea everyday, thats part of my business. It depends on what they put the value of the item on the customs receipt and what country its being shipped from

I buy from overseas all the time. Mostly from Europe but occasionally from South America, Japan, Australia and South Africa and never had to pay customs or had an issue. Sometimes it takes a while to get here and the US interpretation of "mint" is not the same internationally. 8 bucks is what most of the Italian sellers charge and never had any issues

  • if the cards or items you are purchasing from overseas are "made in the usa" (which most trading cards are)... then you will not need to pay duty since you are merely re-patriating american-made merchandise... however, you are supposed to pay sales/use tax to your state of residence (depending on its tax laws) on the price you paid for the item which can sometimes include shipping/handling fees depending again on state law... the buyer is responsible to declare and pay these taxes....

I buy from the UK several times a month and have never had an issue or had to pay any customs fees.
