Believe it or not I've gone into contract with Superior to auction my 1969 set in there June auction. I'll be keeping my White Letters and 6 other cards. (nothing special just cards I like) . I also added 20 new 9's to the set that I bought at Ft. Washington Friday. A few were Pop 1's. It was tough but what the hell I've done this set many times before and I'll just start all over again. Ron and Ray good luck completing and hopefully it wont take me too long to get back in the Top Five. The final cards in the set will be updated by next Friday.

a moment of silence as one of our own cherished 100% completed sets is moving on.
Hopefully the new owner will register it with us and keep hope alive.
It wasnt 100% complete but with the cards I just got back from PSA and bought at Ft Washington it would have been 85-88% complete. I can really appreciate anyone who can finish a set complete. Its really a monumental task.
How's the show? I am heading up Sunday , hope there is still something left then.

I am suprised they would auction a set that is 80% complete, so I wonder if they are combining your set with some other cards or selling it as is? Do you know?

Wow! That's some news. I'm working on that set myself and I'm approaching the 50% mark. It sure would have been nice to have them break up the set and at least individually sell the 1 of 1 and 1 of 2 PSA 9's, but I understand completely why they chose to sell it as one lot. Maybe a dealer will win it and break it up and sell it.
Thanks for sharing this and I hope you come out way ahead on your sale.
Is that '69 Aaron PSA 9 going to be a part of the sale? It's a beauty. I wish I could scrape up that much money and buy it from you. Unfortunately, now isn't a good time for me. I'd be interested in knowing its current status for future reference.
I think I speak for everyone that is building a graded set when I say that I'll be watching this auction closely. I don't think a set this large with as high a percentage graded has ever been auctioned off as a block. I hope that you get your $25k but I'll have to keep it quiet. Otherwise, my wife will be contacting Superior with a 72 set for their fall auction.

outerbankyank on eBay!
Should be very interesting to watch.
I am flabbergasted but not shocked. Your premium set has been a source of envy to us all that collect 69's. I have seen you do this on a smaller scale before so I knew the possibility could exist.
Thank you first of all for the help you have provided to me on this set in the past.
I am looking forward to your rebuilding efforts and your eventual rise back into the top 5.
Your knowledge of this set is a great source of information to all who collect it and I hope you will continue to participate and be active here on this message board to post valuable feedback.
Finally good luck on the sale, I am sure we will have either a first rate collector join the 69 ranks before long due to this, or get access down the road to some of the great cards which have held positions in your set through breakup.
Thanks again. I consider you a friend.

Thanks for the message. I'll get another one built pretty quickly I think. I'm still going to be a tough bidder on future 69's . Thanks again. I'm looking for WL's you need too.
I'm a bit perplexed. You are selling a set and then starting on a new one. Do you mind me asking, what's your rationale? Do you think the market has peaked? Do you enjoy "the chase" more then the set? I'm just curious, but if it's for personal reasons then you have no obligation to declose your reasons. It would seem to me that you may not recover some of those nice 9's like the Aaron and other low pop cards.
PS, I'll be appearing in the '69 Registry in the next few days.

I have two "10's", 180 - "9's" and 139 - "8's". That's 49% complete unweighted. I plan to turn in another 40 cards for grading this month. Of those 321 cards, 250 came straight out of my set. I've been working on it for 12 years and started submitting cards to PSA in 1999.
My set is about 85% complete. I started in 1990 or so and worked on it continuously since then. I tried to buy only well-centered, razor sharp examples. The big problem as you know is that many cards are impossible to find centered and/or in high grade. For now, I'm trying to make my '69 Registry Set (along with all my other sets) either well-centered 9's and high-end 8's. I plan to submit about 35-40 more that are probably all high-end 8's and after that, I'm pretty much done with submitting cards from my set. The remainder are either low 8's or 7's or have diamond cuts, etc and I'd rather wait and hope to find better examples rather than just grade them and pad my set ranking. I don't have the cards you mentioned simply because I never found any that met my expectations. Also, like you, I'm working on the same sets you are, except I'm also working on '67 Topps baseball plus some football, basketball and Kellogg's baseball sets. All of them are lifetime projects. It may be years before I complete this '69 set.
It's about time that one of the premier 1969 sets in the country will be listed in the registry. You'll find it to be quite enjoyable. At the moment, I still have plans in making it to Chicago this year. I hope we can get together again. While I don't plan on finishing the 1969 set until August of 2010. The pursuit will continuously be challenging and filled with surprises.
Sincerely,
Ron
Thanks for your kind words. The list of '69 Collectors is a Who's Who of great collectors with some great sets - especially yours. I hope to have my set complete by July 2010.
Yes, we will hook up at the National this August. I'm looking forward to it very much!
