Ship registered mail as PCGS suggests and really the only smart way to mail expensive items and you won't have a problem. Registered mail takes a little longer but it is very secure.

    it wasn't large scale.

it was just a cluster. they are supposed to have caught the person. there haven't been any complaint threads lately.

They did arrest the person in Anaheim, but most of the coins were NOT found, and I know some coins have NOT been returned to the owners as they keep saying they need them for evidence. It seems to me that there taking there sweet time and the guy is probally out on bail and back to work. I have tried to find out a court date as I am in Calif for a couple months and would have loved to showed up at the hearing. But No information from them at all............Enjoy image

I really don't care what service you use, but mailing anything in a flat, pocketable/stuffable envelope is just asking for it.

I sent in 3 Washie varieties last week, using Small-box Priority w/ins and sig conf (overkill, but...). Shipped from Boston, on Tues the 11th. Got to Anaheim, and signed for, on Thurs the 13th, entered into system on Fri the 14th.

Any coin/coins worth over 4 numbers (then again, if I get the grades I hope to, it would have been.....), would go Express, or at the very least Registered, but I have had no issues at all using Priority with ins and sig conf, and they get there and in the system within 3-4 days max.
    I'll come up with something.

Wasn't the other part of the stolen coins destined to PCGS saga .. that the US post office wasn't honoring insurance claims for coins ?

It was an issue, but I believe Tom got it rectified (not 100% sure, though). Regardless, I have had to file 3 claims with the USPS, one for $1,200, one for $800, and as long as you have documentation on pricing, or, in my case, what I paid ('lost' on their way to me), I had my $$ back, for both, within weeks. Though, I have not lost a package I have sent, so as far as a shipper, I'm not 100% certain.

Tom can better explain how he went about collecting on his shipment to our hosts that got pilfered.
    I'll come up with something.

Was this Registered mail that was being stolen?

So this was about a year ago and I currently want to submit to PCGS. Should I use USPS Express w/ Insurance, or use the new Priority Registered w/ Insurance?

Awesome! Thanks for the tip. It looks like above $10,000 needs to go FedEx or USPS Express??

Oh crap!!! ...was it insured? Did you at least get your $$ for the loss?
  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 38,601 ✭✭✭✭✭
FedEx does not insure coins over $500.00

People who use FedEx have separate insurance.

It was insured. It took over three months to get the money after I was turned down twice.

ShipandInsure.com looks pretty good on insurance for FedEx.

I have never used them before, but they look legit.

Daggo, that's aweful. What a pain in the neck!
