Well, I purchased this card a few years ago, and learned a lot about it since then! This is an ORIGINAL EX+ 1961 Topps Maris card. When I first purchased the card, I believed it to have an authentic ball point pen "early" Maris signature on the card. After speaking with a few people, they believe that the card instead has a stamped signature of Maris, dating to the 1961 or 1962 season. Apparently, Maris began received a lot of fan mail in 1961, and in order to keep up with demand, he employed the use of a rubber stamp to fulfill autograph requests (Mantle did as well). This card was likely sent to Maris to sign in the '61 or '62 season, and Maris (or someone in the clubhouse) stamped his signature on the card. To be clear, I have not sent this card to PSA or JSA to verify the signature. I frankly can't tell whether it's a stamp or not, but I believe it to likely be after having a better understanding of how the process worked.
So, here is what we have for sale... an original 1961 Topps Maris (beautiful card in IMO - would grade EX+), with a Maris signature that was likely stamped to fulfill an TTM request during 1961 or 1962. To be clear, this isn't a "forged" signature - it would have been stamped by Maris or the Yankees.
